Meet the breeder

I'm Liz W., the breeder behind Bare Paws Saint Berdoodles located in Traverse City, MI. My puppies are bred for health and temperament with a focus on conformation, and intelligence. I’m dedicated to providing families with wonderful, healthy family pets.

Q. & A. with Liz

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started breeding after I had an accident and needed a new lively hood. Due to not being able to hold a job with my disability
  • What makes your program special?

I love each pup as they are my own. They have saved my life with the unconditional love they give which in return has given me a new purpose. All babies are raised with Puppy Culture. ❤️ A long read but I promise it’s worth it❤️ Each and everyone of my litters are bred with meaning and purpose. What does this mean? It begins with my mom’s and dad’s ! When I add a new mom or dad to my program it is with the idea of family first. Each of my dogs must enjoy the meaning of family and inclusion whether it be here with us or with one of my fabulous families. My days are spent being a stay at home dog mom. My days are centered around them, This means sacrifice, I often miss family events because I’m never away for too long or I have little ones who need my constant care. I don’t know what it is like to be able to have a spontaneous day away unless it means bringing them along on my adventures. My kiddos want for nothing! I raise them with the puppy culture experience. Health and temperament are key to my program. Prior to implementing any dogs into my program they must first pass a rigorous set of health testing which includes genetic DNA testing. This takes up to two years to accomplish and the breath of fresh air once they have passed everything a relieving accomplishment! Once completed I can begin to structure plans for pairings that will best fit needs structurally and temperamentally. It’s a process that takes time and evaluation. When I’m lucky enough to anticipate arrival of these sweet souls that are completely dependent on me along with their momma for constant care this translates to weeks of sleepless nights. Often intervention is needed in the form of nutrition with tube feeding around the clock every 2 hours and keeping a watchful eye on mom to ensure she has everything she needs to properly care for her babies, We are a team! The first 2-3 weeks are exhausting for the entire house but so worth it to see them flourish and develop emotionally and physically. The journey of delivering and caring for each litter is both exhausting and exciting. It never ceases to amaze me to watch them grow and hit their markers on a daily basis and I don’t take it for granted for one second. The typical 8 weeks that they are in my care goes by in the blink of an eye and then I hand off the baton to our incredible families on gotcha day to begin their next chapter full of precious memories to be made! Each and everyone of my babies takes a massive piece of my hearts with them and I’m so thankful that everyone allows me to watch them flourish and enjoy their adventures from afar!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are mahogany and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
