Meet the breeder

I'm Heather B., the breeder behind Barron’s Dan River Retrievers located in Chatham, VA. Each of our dogs has brought so much happiness to us throughout their lives. We want to do our part to produce wonderful, healthy dogs that can bring other people joy as well, and we strive to provide each of our puppies with loving homes where they can live happy lives.

Q. & A. with Heather

  • Why did you start breeding?

We had a couple of litters of puppies with our first golden and so when we got Charlie in 2015, I told my husband that I would like to have a litter of puppies with her. So in 2017 after having a litter of puppies with Charlie and enjoying it so much, I looked at my husband and said, this is what I want to do full time.
  • What makes your program special?

I’m always trying to be better. I have learned so much and I’m trying to improve my program everyday. When I’m deciding on a dog for my program, I’m not just looking at OFA, PennHip and DNA results. I’m looking at the disposition, personality, and looks of the dog also. They have to have it all. I’m here for my families from the time the puppies are born until the very end.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
