Lena was most accommodating with our schedule, wonderful to work with, picking up "Dottie" a Bassett Hound, a few days early, worked perfectly for our schedule.
Dottie is a very, robust, active, healthy puppy - growing up FAST, gaining weight - she's gonna be a very nice dog! 9-10 weeks old, and people ask us if we'd sell her, everyone wants a cute little Bassett Hound!
I've never seen a puppy roll over while barking, or one who learned her name so fast, she's very smart for her age, quickly adapting to the farm routines. And so healthy & strong, just days after we got her, she's sniffing this and that, can climb a step (single step) into the house - Dottie just loves meeting people in stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby), so gregarious & outgoing - she takes quickly to almost anything we present to her. Such a good dog!
I wanted a Bitch (female dog) to sort of "ride herd" on these 2 Swedish Vallhund dogs (both male), which we use for herding cattle & ducks, they're kinda cocky, but, very good at barking LOUD (I call them the "Bark Brothers"). Lena suggested I change my pick from one girl to another, the more aggressive pup in the litter - perfect fit for us! Dottie is just 10 weeks old, while quite a bit slower than these 2 speedy herders, she's asserts herself without question (are they in trouble when she grows up! There's a new girl in town!).
Dottie discovered a big patch of Clover in the front yard, she rolls while barking... funny dog! I could go on and on, but, would be missing the point, after a few texts explaining what we wanted, Lena picked the perfect pup for our farm, perfect for a 67yr old guy in need of a "project". I love Bloodhounds, but I'm too old to run after them, so, Dottie (the Bassett Hound), is just like a Bloodhound, but with shorter legs. Even as a pup, she's showing tracking ability.
One of the things we liked about this breeder's kennel, the dogs do not look like they have crazy, freakishly long ears, eyes look normal, legs look good, they look like Bassetts from decades ago, balanced. Getting Dottie home and watching her track a duck trail at 10 weeks old - this dog is gonna be good! Now I gotta teach her how to sing (howl like a bloodhound).
