I'm Karen K., the breeder behind Battlefield Australian Shepherds and Miniature American Shepherds located in Fredericksburg, VA. We are ethical, home-based breeder of top-quality Miniature American Shepherds, AKC Breeder of Merit. We extensively plan a few litters a year not volumes. We focus on temperament, intelligence, and type. All breeding dogs are extensively health testing & puppies well socialized.

Why did you start breeding?
My mother raised Boxers and I've had a love for dogs since a child. I needed a new dog that could be a service dog for my hearing-impaired son. Quickly, the family began enjoying the breed. In 15 short years, I have improved on her breeding stock with many champions! Knowing my puppies are out there enriching lives is extremely fulfilling.What makes your program special?
Breeding dogs takes a large investment of time and money when done right. We spend time planning the next litter working to improve on faults as well as spend a lot amount of time making sure each puppy is healthy, safe, loved, and cared for as our own. I am always willing to respond to my puppy owners whenever they have a question. No question is too small or big that we can't solve together.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include red tri-color, black tri, black, red merle, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Litter update on 24 July •…Awwwh! Rose is still looking for her forever home. I waited for someone that wanted her for 4 weeks until back from their vacation and decided now was not the time. However, that means Rose can be merry with a new family! 🐾And yes, she has a tail! 🐶Almost 12 weeks old. 💉Two sets of shots 🚽House trained Let me know if interested. She is show quality, so she can be shown and do performance. Her pedigree is amazing!

Litter update on 24 June •…Two boys out in grass tonight during the heatwave. Girls video shortly. It is too hot to keep them out right now. I wet the grass down to help them stay cool. 15 mins tops for puppies outside for safety.

Hip Dysplasia

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

Karen was so easy to work. She gave us the choice of 2 different puppies that she thought would be a good fit for our home. In the end she steered us to our sweet girl because she thought that she would be the best for us and she was absolutely right. She’s answered questions that I’ve had after we’ve been home and offered advice to help us. We are so happy with our new puppy. She’s such a good girl and the most beautiful pup you’ve ever seen. She’s so smart and has learned most of the basic commands and she’s only 13 weeks old. She can even jump through a hula hoop already!

Karen is a wonderful person!! The Australian Shepard mini that I purchased from her is a gem. I named him Whiskey. He has already done so well adjusting to his new surroundings. He has gone to NC already. And met some new play buddies. Karen is top notch . I will definitely purchase from her again.
