I'm Jennifer M., the breeder behind Beartooth Belgian Tervuren located in Laurel, MT. We strive to produce dogs who conform to the AKC standard, who are sound in mind and body, and who crave a partnership with their human.
Q. & A. with Jennifer
Why did you start breeding?
I had wonderful mentors who helped me with research and decisions when I bred my Belgian Sheepdog in 1998. Though that litter produced champions and the #1 Belgian Sheepdog in AKC agility for two years, some dogs in the litter had health problems. It was heart-breaking for the owners and for me, but the experience brought new friendships and more joy than tears. I am still in touch with most of those puppy buyers and some have purchased other puppies from me over the years. These relationships are a big part of what makes breeding so rewarding.
What makes your program special?
I want to preserve the Belgian Tervuren breed as the intelligent, athletic, and intuitive dogs they have been since their origins. I have titled my dogs in the breed ring, obedience, agility, herding, nose work, and dock diving. I have produced breed champions as well as dogs titled in a wide variety of sports. I have produced dogs that were ranked nationally in some of these activities. I have produced dogs that worked in SAR, memory care visitation, and assistance for a person afflicted with Parkinson's disease. My program produces dogs that people take to work with them, take camping and hiking, and cross country skiing. Whether or not they are show dogs, they are best friends and partners.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
