Q. & A. with Kriston
Why did you start breeding?
I breed show horses growing up it was natural to move into dogs. This has become a passion and consumes my life. This is definitely not a decision to take lightly. I started by finding a mentor in my breed that has become part of my family.
What makes your program special?
I have been fortunate enough to be mentored by people who have been in the breed for 30+ years. We work hard to preserve health and longevity which we often do not see in Danes. Not only do they have to be pretty but for us, it's a complete picture they also have to be performing and correct to standard.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include harlequin, mantle, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Congenital Hypothyroidism with Goiter (CHG)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
