Bent River Bretons

Doug B.

Breeder of French Brittanys and Brittanys

Meet the breeder

I'm Doug B., the breeder behind Bent River Bretons located in Port Byron, IL. Our program is built upon a foundation of love, admiration, and respect for the breed. We're a generational breeder of the French variety of Brittany. Our dogs all live in the home and hunt upland birds. Our priorities when breeding are on structure, function, and temperament. We are happy to tell you more about what life with a Breton is like and how they will not only enhance your daily life, but exceed your expectations!

Q. & A. with Doug

  • Why did you start breeding?

We first learned about this remarkable breed long before we owned one. Epagneul Bretons are a passion of ours, and we are devoted to doing whatever we can to preserve, protect, and improve this incredible breed. We breed to help ensure the future of the Breton and to improve upon our dogs' fantastic traits with each generation. It is so fulfilling!
  • What makes your program special?

We work with the French variety of Brittany in our program. We strive to produce healthy, intelligent Bretons that are the best all-around dogs in structure, function, and temperament. They excel as hunting companions AND as relaxed family companions! Our dogs have been carefully selected, with dogs imported from around the world, to guarantee their accomplished pedigree. Our knowledge of these dogs goes way back and our love for them goes even further!
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
