I'm Alex S., the breeder behind Betacoil Curly Coated Retrievers located in Salt Lake City, UT. Curlies are wickedly intelligent, and should be confident and curious dogs. We love this breed, and strive to produce healthy, happy, well rounded puppies who match their owners' needs. Breeding is both an art and science, so we provide our puppy people with lifelong support and community.
Q. & A. with Alex
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding because there is a critical need in our breed for the younger generation to start taking over for the first wave of American Curly breeders. Quite a few breeders / kennels have already retired, and many more breeders aren't producing like they used to. If we want any Curly puppies born in this country in 15 years then we need a community of younger breeders. We volunteered!
What makes your program special?
My husband and I have come at this from a unique perspective. I am a professional dog trainer who specializes in service dog training, and Lark, who I bought from my mentor to be the beginning of my kennel, ended up living with my co-owner long term and becoming her medical alert service dog. We really wanted to protect the unique temperament qualities Lark has while working to preserve the breed.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Frankie is having WAY too much fun in her new home. 😂💕 I couldn’t be happier with Frankie’s situation as she’s in training to become her mom’s next Search and Rescue dog! I am so excited to see her progress and success stories as she continues training and grows up.

Chirp is our last available puppy, and I am so thrilled to report that he’s passed his echocardiogram! Chirp was one of the puppies who presented at their first check up prior to going home with a puppy heart murmur. I wanted to make sure that he was clear of any congenital heart defects before placing him with his new family.
The echocardiogram proved that his heart is perfectly, and the cardiologist said he will have absolutely zero issues even if the murmur can still be heard! ❤️🎉
Chirp is our black collar boy, and was the top working pick of the boys! Chirp is a medium energy / drive dog who would do well as a hunting dog, sport dog, demo dog, or adventure buddy. He is fully vaccinated, crate trained, and we’re working on his potty training. 🥰 This means less work for his future family as he’s got some foundations and skills that his owner can continue.
We are currently accepting inquiries and would love to hear from you!
