I'm Laura, the breeder behind Bijou Poodles located in Niagara Falls, NY. As conscientious breeders, we are proud of the loving, smart, beautiful, and sound puppies we’re able to provide for others. Why did you start breeding?
I could not find dark Brown Standard poodles that passed all health testing and that were calm sweet natured, and that held color, so in 1989 I set out to produce my own. Since then we have accomplished hundreds of Performance Titles and Champions and lovely companions.What makes your program special?
With over 30 years of experience, Bijou Poodles raises puppies with health, temperament and companionship at heart. Our puppies are home raised with individual attention, early socialization and plenty of love. Parents are OFA and DNA health tested. After buyers complete the application and screening process, Laura partners with them to find the best puppy match.

Gucci is a female Poodle. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Laura decided to make her part of their program. Laura has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

Eddy is an example of what a STUD should be, or as I call them, "Stallions" of the breed. Solid muscle, good boning, nice chest and shoulder lay back, loads of rear angulation and DARK red coat. Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Dentition
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEwS), von Willebrand Disease II (vWD II)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
