I'm Rae, the breeder behind Bougie Bullies & Birds LLC located in Maryland. In order to start our puppies off on the right paw, we begin training and socializing at a young age so they are set up for success in their new homes. We prioritize the health and well-being of each one of our puppies and Dams and follow all appropriate puppy/breeding health protocols. We raise every single puppy as if they are staying with us forever. We don’t breed our females more than once in a 12 month period. Regardless of controversial opinions, it’s not for us.
The goal is to always make each litter healthier and better than the last, while not sacrificing the health of our Mamas.
Q. & A. with Rae
Why did you start breeding?
Check out our blog in our website for how and why we do this.

What makes your program special?
We never cut corners or sacrifice our animals for money. Every pup comes to you genetically tested. Our animals are our first priority. They are raised in our home as part of the family on our couches. I am home with the animals all day and night so they have direct supervision all day. A human adult is awake with our litters 24/7 until they are 4 weeks old. After that, a human adult sleeps in the nursery with the litter until they are 6-7 weeks old. For the final week, I go back to my bedroom so the puppies get used to a human NOT in the same room with them constantly. I may or may not have been called a helicopter puppy mom! 😂
Where do your breeding dogs live?

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Bougie Bullies & Birds LLC reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Bulldogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Tracheal Hypoplasia, Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
