Meet the breeder

I'm DAYSHA B., the breeder behind Breken Great Danes located in Golconda, IL. We fell in love with the breed because of their intelligence and personality. There’s hardly a better feeling than being able to share them with other families that will love them the way that we do! We strive to full health test our great danes with results posted publicly here on gooddog and orthopedicfor animals. We will never breed a dane with failing health results or questionable temperment. Our danes are all family pets and are great with everyone people and animals alike. We do actively show our great danes in conformation and have 15 years of experience with our breed.

Q. & A. with DAYSHA

  • Why did you start breeding?

I first got into breeding about 3 years after I got my very first dane. I very quickly learned the difference between a pet that should not be used for breeding and a show quality dog. I never bred my very first Dane even though I was able as she was not what I wanted to breed. I didn't want to just breed to produce litters. I wanted to do more. I wanted to improve our breed and achieve something more.
  • What makes your program special?

My breeding program focuses on Temperament, Health, then Conformation. I believe a Great Dane with a Sound mind is just as important as one with correct conformation. We are well known for producing well rounded Danes with great temperaments. No Aggression is ever encouraged in our breeding program. We fully health test all of our dogs before being considered for breeding. We also show all of our Danes through some do not enjoy the ring as much as being a pet so not all of our Danes have Champion titles.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include mantle merle, harlequin, mantle, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

I picked Daysha/Breken Great Danes by pure happenstance -- mainly I wanted to get information about how the Good Dog website works. Picking out a pup was secondary when we first spoke. Daysha was fantastic. She clearly knew her stuff when it came to this breed and spoke very candidly about things I need to keep an eye on when it comes to raising my pup. She talked at length to me about my attitude toward puppies and dogs so she could then help me match up with just the right pup. It's clear she cares about every one of her dogs and the puppies that they produce. When she insisted on traveling out to California to deliver my puppy, I knew I had found the perfect breeder. I have a new friend in Daysha as well as the little guy she brought to me. I could not be any happier.

I had a rough start finding the puppy and breeder until I was lucky enough to come across Daysha and Breken Great Danes. The experience I had with her was night and day compared to my first two failed attempts. She took the time to talk with me about the breed, her history as a breeder and answered all my questions. I would definitely suggest her to anyone looking for a Great Dane. I can't thank her enough!
