I'm Margaret H., the breeder behind Carabella Vintage Collies located in Albany, OR. Carabella Vintage Collies has spent years bringing back original colors of collies, the disposition, work ethic of collies of long ago, and also bringing back good health to collies. We do much genetic testing and matching up genes to lift future collies out of DMS and other auto-immune diseases.
Q. & A. with Margaret
Why did you start breeding?
By discovering groups working together to bring back collies of old with amazing work ethics, the ability to guard their flocks, their families, to also become amazing nannies to children and healers to the sick. It has taken years to bring back the original colors bred out of collies and to restore their good health by genetically bringing in small c alleles to prevent auto-immune diseases.
What makes your program special?
We spend much time getting to know who each puppy is, as well as the people hoping to bring one of them into their homes. We want our puppies to become all they were meant to be and adopters to be happy with their puppy. We tend to sell or puppies later than some due to the genetic testing we do on each puppy before they are available. We want our puppies to go to forever homes.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Dreamer, dad
Old Time Scotch Collie
About Dreamer
Dreamer is actually bi-black, not Black White and Tan. (I was not given that choice in description.) Bi-black is one of the original colors of collies of long ago from Scotland and the Whales. Dreamer is the result of many years of very careful breeding to restore not only the original colors of collies, but more importantly to bring back the good health that collies once had. Dreamer carries two rare small c alleles to lift future collies out of DMS and other auto-immune diseases. He inherited a 006:01 gene from his mother and a 023:01 gene from his father. He is everything that Carabella Vintage Collies has worked for to help collies and to bring back their good health and work ethics. This is the first time he has bred a litter of puppies. Six of his puppies inherited his 006:01 gene. We are thrilled.
Sage, dad
Old Time Scotch Collie
About Sage
Sage is very gentle, kind, affectionate and animated. He loves to perform and please. He is my very favorite of all the dogs I have ever had. I have been working to take DMS and other auto-immune diseases out of collies. Sage inherited one small c allele to help make that happen. Has been a long journey and a very worthwhile one. I am very, very grateful for Sage. Not only is he very engaged and loving, but also inherited the genes needed to help with collie health. Sage comes from therapy dog lines, obedience and agility dog lines, herding and hawk dog lines. He is very intuitive and an empath dog. He passes those wonderful genes down to his puppies.

Magic, mom
Old Time Scotch Collie
About Magic
Magic is not a color that is listed. She is a bi-black which is a color collies once were long ago before breeders took that color out of collies. I am working on a program not only to restore the colors of old, but also the good health that collies once had.
