Meet the breeder

I'm Nancy T., the breeder behind Caris Paws Poodles and Labradoodles located in Plainfield, NJ. We raise our puppies with total care and attention so they can become well-socialized and loving additions to their forever homes. We have spent years raising healthy and happy puppies! We are dedicated to building the breed by ensuring breed standards are passed down with each of our litters.

Q. & A. with Nancy

  • Why did you start breeding?

I began this journey because I wanted to pass on my dogs’ wonderful temperaments to other families. Both my Labradoodle and Standard Poodle are Service Dogs. My children are deeply involved in the process, and I love that it teaches them one of life’s greatest lessons: the joy, love, and responsibility that come from caring for an animal.
  • What makes your program special?

We are a family-focused breeding program. Our puppies are born and raised right in our living room, where they’re surrounded by children, adults, and other dogs. They grow up with constant interaction, daily handling, and exposure to all the everyday sounds of a busy home. By the time they’re ready to join your family, they’ve already spent days being loved and socialized by our kids!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Labradoodle puppies are standard size. Poodle puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Labradoodle puppies include parti, caramel cream, apricot, cream, and black. Poodle puppies include apricot, black, white, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Nancy was so responsive and answered all of my questions. Nancy and her family love these babies and socialize them very well. Ducky will be a great addition to our family. We will continue to work closely with Nancy regarding his care. I cannot recommend her enough. The love and dedication she shows towards the puppies and the new families is infectious. If you are looking for a well rounded puppy, DO NOT HESITATE! NANCY IS THE ONE!

Nancy has been such a great help all throughout the discovery and adoption process! She builds relationships with potential clients so she can find just the right fit for a family and for a pup. We went back and forth about whether or not the timing was right for our family, and she was patient and did not pressure us in any way. It really seems like she just wants what's best for the pups and the people. She was also knowledgeable about the breed and full of recommendations and information. She was super responsive to all our questions and was flexible, working with us to come up with the right way for us to meet our puppy since we lived far away. In terms of our puppy -- he is amazing! She was forthright about an umbilical hernia he had (which is not big problem at all and is fixable). She was also honest about his temperament. . . . which is the *best* ever! It sounds like that's typical for her pups because of their service-dog parents. He is so sweet and attentive and has been incredibly well-socialized, being exposed to kids and adults and sounds and other dogs. In our first few moments together in the park, little kids petted him, another dog growled (but he was fine) and a motorcycle drove by. He is relaxed and friendly and gentle with everyone he meets. We love our new pup!

Sometimes finding what you need is a matter of luck and sometimes it’s a matter of destiny. I had lost my wonderful standard poodle to cancer a few months before my search for a new poodle began and I am so grateful to have found Nancy P. Tobias and Caris Paws via Good Dog. She welcomed me into her home, introduced me to some of her dogs, to my little Lily, and to Lily’s parents. All of dogs I met are sweet and loving. After seeing how well-behaved and loving her dog family is, I engaged Nancy to board and train my puppy. Lily has learned so much in a short time. And because of Nancy’s own warmth and sharing ways, this old dog has learned some new tricks, too! It’s been a wonderful experience to develop our own “hooman” relationship. I really look forward to staying in touch with a new friend.

I adopted my miniature poodle Jeanette from Caris and she is so wonderful! Nancy chose the right dog for me and was very helpful throughout the adoption process. I highly recommend Caris for anyone who is looking for a poodle or a labradoodle! I cannot say enough good about this dog and the breeder!

Working with Nancy was an absolute pleasure! She is warm, knowledgeable, and deeply invested in her puppies’ well-being. From our very first conversation, she guided us through the process with patience and care, answering every question we had - and even the ones we didn’t know to ask. That attentiveness gave us so much confidence in bringing our puppy home. It’s clear that Nancy goes above and beyond to make sure her puppies are healthy, happy, and well-prepared for their new families. We couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful start she gave our puppy.

We recently brought home a miniature poodle puppy from Nancy, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. From the very beginning, Nancy stood out not just as a breeder, but as a truly knowledgeable and generous resource for all things dog-related. Our pup, Rose, came to us happy, healthy, and remarkably well-adjusted. She was already socialised, sleeping through the night in her crate, and potty trained on a pad — a testament to Nancy’s skill not only as a breeder, but also as a trainer and groomer. Rose has been a joy from day one, whether she's snuggling on the sofa, playing outside, or joining us on walks. As first-time dog owners, we were especially grateful for the wealth of advice Nancy provided on everything from food and scheduling to vet visits and training tips. She truly went above and beyond to set us — and Rose — up for success. We would not hesitate to recommend Nancy to anyone looking for a miniature poodle, a trainer, or a thoughtful pet consultant. Her puppies are clearly loved and well cared for, and her ongoing support has been invaluable.
