Meet the breeder

I'm Randy and Kathy V., the breeder behind Carousel Corgis located in Dawson, IA. We are a new breeding program. We care deeply about doing everything correctly with the focus on the well-being of our dogs. We plan to raise healthy family pets you can use for work, companionship, or show. Our motto is healthy dogs, happy families. After a few set back with a previous mama and then a relocation. 2026 and we are back on track with a successful litter of beautiful Scotty X Gypsy babies!

Q. & A. with Randy and Kathy

  • Why did you start breeding?

Seeing irresponsibly bred dogs going to family homes, then popping up in my 4-H dog club with kids was sad when we'd see the dogs develop genetic problems. It’s just heartbreaking to see what a loved family dog goes through and the sadness that brings to its people. Our goal is to breed responsibly so that will not happen.
  • What makes your program special?

We’ve chosen our breeding stock for specific reasons: family pets, with working backgrounds, show lines, and sweet temperaments. We own both parents so we can control what we breed, and ensure our breeding dogs are healthy. Gypsy brings a natural herding instinct which should pass to her puppies. Scotty is a sweet tempered and goofy boy, he should pass those qualities on! We plan to add a new Mama to our program in 2026 or 27, once we find the right girl!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Randy and Kathy were everything we hoped to find in a breeder. After losing our Corgi suddenly at just 3 years old last December, my husband and I knew we weren’t ready to give up the joy a Corgi brings — but we also wanted to be absolutely sure we chose a reputable, health‑focused program this time. My husband actually found Carousel Corgis first, and he fell in love with Milo instantly. From the very beginning, Kathy was incredibly responsive and patient with all of my questions. She answered everything with compassion and professionalism, and she even encouraged me to reach out to her veterinarian directly which I did. Not once did Kathy dodge a concern of mine or make me feel like I was asking too much. Instead, she welcomed my questions and provided clear documentation that showed how seriously she takes the health and quality of her program. This is exactly what we wanted! Once we were officially set on Milo, Kathy kept us updated constantly with photos and videos. It was so special watching him grow alongside his littermates and seeing how loving and attentive Mama Gypsy was — truly the sweetest mom. Since we live out of state, Kathy also worked with us to arrange airport pickup and was flexible around our travel needs. When the big day finally came and we met in person, everything just felt so easy and reassuring. We’re now on day two with our puppy, and his little personality is already shining. He’s confident, super smart, sweet, and even getting along with his kitty sister! Overall, I can’t recommend Carousel Corgis enough. Randy and Kathy gave us complete peace of mind during a very emotional process, and we’re so grateful for the care they put into their dogs and their families. We’re already excited to follow future litters and continue supporting their wonderful program.
