Meet the breeder

I'm Shelby S., the breeder behind Cast Iron Kennels located in Roachdale, IN. We breed high-quality, working puppies that are also family pets. We are committed to breeding pups with the capability of working as personal protection dogs if their family chooses to pursue training. The quality of our dogs reflects the decisions we make in every part of the breeding process.

Q. & A. with Shelby

  • Why did you start breeding?

Through our training we have noticed a decline in the mental stability and structural soundness of breeds that should be capable of working. We want to be able to provide quality dogs capable of being working dogs to families and individuals. Our goal is to breed high quality, social dogs, full of working drive and intelligence.
  • What makes your program special?

With Jake being a certified dog trainer specializing in personal protection and working dogs, we know which dogs and temperaments will fit best for families and working homes. We focus on bettering and preserving working breeds of dogs. We love pairing our pups up with a loving home and really enjoy seeing them learn to protect their families as they get older!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include gray and fawn, black, fawn, gray, and gray brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I contacted Shelby about an available puppy, and she got back to me within 15mins. She answered every question I had about the puppy, and even gave a rundown on her previous litter from the same parents. I let her know that I was talking it over with my family, then would get back to her. She messaged me the following day to let me know that she’s received a couple of other inquiries, and simply wanted to give me the heads up before replying since I had inquired first. At that time we submitted the payment for our new pup!! This is our 3rd Corso, and it was honestly the smoothest and best experience we’ve ever had with a breeder. They absolutely love what they do, and put great care and early socialization into their dogs. They have an amazing facility. Our puppy was around other dogs, cats, and farm animals on a regular basis. On top of that, they have young children that are constantly involved with the puppies as well. We were updated on pictures prior to meeting up that week. It was nice to see the daily interaction. They made meeting up extremely convenient for us, supplied us with all paperwork and proof of vaccinations, a bag of food, and a leather collar for him. The puppy has transitioned great with us, and is the most docile and non reactive Corso pup we’ve had. He is full of confidence and although he obviously has that “rambunctious Corso puppy nature” he is super well mannered with an unmatched temperament that couldn’t be any better. We are super appreciative to have come across Shelby and her family, as this is exactly what you want to see from Corso breeders. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Our puppy is extremely healthy and playful, and is an absolutely gorgeous dog!! I would highly recommend anyone looking for a Cane Corso to reach out to them. Our overall experience was a 10 out of 10, and we are greatly appreciative of their amazing service!!

Shelby was amazing at communicating! Very knowledgeable and amazing when explaining the breed and at pick up communicated everything! She was super welcoming as meeting for the first time to pick up a puppy can be nervous! She and her husband made everything super easy and added some helpful tips!! I appreciate them so much!
