Meet the breeder

I'm Heather C., the breeder behind Chavez Longhair Lowriders located in Belen, NM. We are a small family-based dachshund breeder passionate about raising beautiful, healthy, and well-socialized longhaired dachshunds. Our dogs are raised inside our home as part of our family and receive daily love, attention, and socialization. We focus on producing puppies with wonderful temperaments, excellent health, and the sweet personalities dachshunds are known for. Our puppies are introduced to everyday household activities, children, and plenty of cuddles to help them become confident companions. Each puppy goes home pre-spoiled, with age-appropriate vaccines, deworming, and starter information to help make the transition easy for their new family. We care deeply about where our puppies go and love building lasting relationships with our puppy families.

Q. & A. with Heather

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got into breeding because of my love for dachshunds and the happiness they bring into a home. After raising and caring for my own dogs, I realized how rewarding it was to help families find the perfect companion. I wanted to raise puppies in a loving home environment where they receive daily attention, care, and socialization from the very beginning. Seeing families fall in love with one of our puppies makes it all worth it.
  • What makes your program special?

When you take home one of our puppies, our relationship doesn't end at the front door. You become a permanent part of our extended family. "A reputable breeder is a mentor for the life of the dog." Whether you need advice on grooming that gorgeous, silky coat at 6 months, house-training tips at 9 months, or senior care guidance 12 years down the road, we are always just a phone call, text, or email away. We are here to celebrate the milestones with you and support you through every stage of your journey.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
