I'm Bridgette D., the breeder behind Chicken of the Woods Permaculture Farm located in Gaithersburg, MD. We seek to consistently align our breeding program with the following goals: adaptive temperament, superlative genetics, optimum health and puppy readiness. The goals are supported by the fulfillment of the other goals thus creating a holistically sound breeding program and happy puppy owners.
Q. & A. with Bridgette
Why did you start breeding?
We purchased Siri with the intention of breeding her so we could have a pre-trained puppy that was raised on the farm by a working farm dog. After a year-long search for a sire, we finally found the perfect candidate; John Wick. His owner lives within an hour, his temperament and genetics are superior and he shows only very distant relation to Siri.
What makes your program special?
We seek to only provide the highest quality and healthiest environment for our dam and pups. This includes delayed vaccinations, raw food diet, and extensive puppy evaluation and social training.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are sable and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Siri
Siri lives on a suburban 3 acre farm with chickens and ducks. She herds the fowl into their coops at night, vigilantly practices vermin control and is a serious fox and coyote deterrent. From age 13 weeks, she has had regular exposure to homeschool families with children of all ages and adult farm volunteers. She is gentle and biddable with all farm fowl, pets and visitors but does alert us to new arrivals. She plays with dogs if all breeds, ages and sizes. She loves her daily long woods walks best. She consumes a raw diet of meat, bones, organs with supplements including kefir, eggs and seaweed.
She was confirmed pregnant with at least puppies on Jun 16, 2025.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Chicken of the Woods Permaculture Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Old Time Scotch Collies.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
