Child's Canine Companions

Torri C.

Breeder of Dalmatians

Meet the breeder

I'm Torri C., the breeder behind Child's Canine Companions located in Burley, ID. Our pups are born inside our home and are exposed to other animals, different ages of people and are cuddled regularly. The parents are Embark tested and screened for multiple genetic issues. We use this process in our attempt to better select our breeding dogs for healthier pups for your home.

Q. & A. with Torri

  • Why did you start breeding?

It wasn't the plan but I fell in love with the animals and saw such potential to better the breed's genetic issues with genetic testing. I am excited to help to be a part of that improvement. I was a foster home to about 50 children and 2 sons of my own as a single mom, and now I can use my nurturing skills to raise and improve dogs with the help of my 2 adopted daughters and my husband.
  • What makes your program special?

We love and devote all our time to these animals. We are blessed to be doing something we love and that serves a greater purpose and put a lot of work into our dogs. Exposing them to multiple outdoor experiences, noises, children, farm animals, and other indoor and outdoor pets. We work hard to potty train and give them any health boosts they may need with supplements and focus on nurturing daily.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and orange, white, liver and tan, white black and tan, white and liver brown, white and lemon, and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Child's Canine Companions reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dalmatians.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
