I'm Barbara L., the breeder behind CJ's Sho-Me Akitas located in Wright City, MO. Dedicated to the breed for over 30 years; raising sound, healthy Akitas for showing and companionship as pets. We complete OFA testing on all of our dogs before breeding them. Puppies are raised in our home, groomed regularly, microchipped & vaccinated and crate & leash trained before going home.

    Working to preserve our long time beloved Akita breed, we focus solely on Akitas and strive to breed high quality Akitas that fit the AKC standard and have stable temperaments to excel in the showring and in your home as a pet.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Barbara

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $2,000 - $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Our pet puppy price is $2,500. All puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee conditional upon spay/neuter at the agreed upon age per our contract. Deposit amount of $500 required to hold a puppy.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
