Meet the breeder

I'm Beth C., the breeder behind Come By MAS located in Fort Dodge, IA. Small, home-based breeder raising puppies in our home with a focus on health, temperament, and early development. We use positive reinforcement training, are active in dog sports including scent work, and provide careful puppy–home matching with lifelong support.

Q. & A. with Beth

  • Why did you start breeding?

I fell in love with breeding through my dogs and dog sports. Seeing their breed-specific personalities, intelligence, and drive up close inspired me to raise puppies with care, love, and purpose - helping each one become a happy, confident companion and a dog who thrives in sport and life.
  • What makes your program special?

We focus on raising puppies with excellent temperaments through early socialization, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training. Being active in dog sports like scent work, obedience, and conformation helps us nurture confident, well-adjusted dogs ready for family life or performance. Our puppies are set up for life-long success.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red tri-color, black tri, red merle, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Come By MAS reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Miniature American Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Hereditary (Juvenile) Cataracts (HC; JC)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
