Meet the breeder

I'm Khalida H., the breeder behind Copper Sky Beagles located in High Point, NC. I am a proud member of the National Beagle Club, and active in several clubs, including the Columbus Beagle Club, Perry County Beagle Club, Tarheel Beagle Club, and United Beagle Gundog Federation (UBGF). When I lived in Ohio I was also active with Columbus All-Breed Training Center and Licking River Kennel Club. I was recognized as Trainer of the Year by the Licking River Kennel Club in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and my four beagles have earned over 100 titles over the last nine years. I was honored to be asked to judge the bench show at the UBGF Derby National Run-off in 2017. I breed my beagles for both form and function; I am one of only a very few serious breeders seeking to breed for both correct conformation as well as traditional field ability. I have a detailed description of my breeding goals on my website.

Q. & A. with Khalida

  • Why did you start breeding?

While in the Army I did not feel I could give a dog an acceptable level of attention, but as soon as I left active duty I obtained my first dog, Aerial, in November of 2009. We had to learn a lot together but have been extremely successful over the last few years, expanding our canine horizons to several very different activities. I bred my first litter in 2013, mostly because I had become very interested in the dog show world and wanted to see if I could produce a champion, and since then I have continued to work to better the breed with each litter.
  • What makes your program special?

My goal is to produce beagles that can perform respectably in the show ring and respectably in the field. There are very few people attempting to create such "dual purpose beagles", and some of them have different goals and priorities than I do, so the "dual purpose" breeding pool is extremely limited.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black red and white, black fawn and white, black tan and bluetick, red and white, and black tan and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

“I do not take deposits until puppies are born and we have confirmed that I will have an acceptable puppy for you from the litter. I do not breed often enough to simply promise a puppy from my next litter; some of my puppy families wait for a specific breeding or have specific needs (show, performance, therapy, etc.) so my "list" is somewhat fluid between litters.
