I'm John & Allison C., the breeder behind Cotten's Sunset Kennels located in Ludington, MI. Our high-quality puppies are the result of extensive research and thorough care for our outstanding dogs and puppies. It’s important to us that we continue to improve our program and share our knowledge with our buyer families. We want to better the breed through thorough health testing and selective breeding decisions.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We have been involved in some type of dog business for many years. John competed in horseback field trials along with NSTRA trials with his Brittanys, securing 3rd in the nations twice with one of his dogs. We then opened our own dog boarding business. After having so many people ask for our help in training their dogs we decided to start training dogs professionally as well. When we purchased our first Coton we fell in love with the breed immediately! And that is how we finally decided to breed dogs. We want everyone to experience how wonderful the Coton de Tulear breed is!

  • What makes your program special?

    We are not a typical breeder. We are a very small fish in a large pond. We are very particular about what dogs we would ever breed and will only have one or two litters of puppies a year. All of our puppies will be following the Puppy Culture Program so they will be well adjusted and ready for their forever homes.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from John & Allison

John & Allison has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, John & Allison partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“I typically let buyers pick their puppy. I am not someone who is going to tell a buyer how their money is going to be spent. If they want a specific puppy and have gone through my approval process I don't have any issues with that. I think people should be allowed to pick their puppy. Especially since a Coton isn't an aggressive dog. ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $700 non-refundable deposit and $2,100 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes a health guarantee, AKC registration, first vaccinations, deworming and all puppies will have followed the Puppy Culture Program. All of our puppies are the same price.”

Contract & health guarantee

John & Allison may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

    John & Allison Cotten, own Cotten Sunset Kennels. 10 out of 10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Among owning pet boarding and training, they are also excellent breeders. Our beloved pet of almost 16 years had passed away. One week later the birth of our puppy Baron was born at John & Allison's. We found and worked with them through Good Dog. John & Allison kept us updated with pictures, nursing, weaning, food, potty training, early learning steps, early socialization, first vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping. They kept us updated for the full 8 weeks. They responded quickly to anything we asked them. Did I leave anything out? Probably, because they were wonderful about everything!     From the very beginning, Allison and John were thoughtful, communicative, and deeply invested in their puppies and the families they go home with. It was clear at every step that they raise their dogs with intention, love, and an incredible amount of care. Bringing Dahlia home has genuinely been life-changing in the best possible way. Cotons are truly remarkable dogs — intuitive, joyful, deeply bonded to their people, and incredibly intelligent. One small example: Dahlia recently helped “find” a lost item in our backyard that my mom had thought was gone forever. It was such a perfect snapshot of how observant, engaged, and tuned-in she is.
