Jagger and Autumn's litter
Coton de Tulear
About Autumn
Autumn is a very gentle and happy Coton de Tulear. In fact, she may be the happiest dog we have ever met! And as dog trainers we meet a lot of dogs! She is very easy going and has been a dream to train. She is the perfect Coton size and has the ability to adapt to her surroundings very easily. Autumn is always happy and curious as to what is going on. She is content to sit on your lap and take a nap but also loves to play with her toys. She truly has been a dream to own.
Coton de Tulear
About Jagger
Jagger is a very laid back and easy going Coton de Tulear. He is my velcro dog and anywhere I go he wants to go with me. However, he is also very independent and we have never had any issues with leaving him etc. He was very easy to train and at times we have used him as our demonstration dog at our Basic Obedience Classes that we teach. Jagger was the main reason we decided to breed Cotons, we want everyone to experience the wonderful world of Cotons!
Coton de Tulear
About Maddie
Maddie is our snuggle bug. She loves to just lay in our lap and take a nap. However, she is also the first one to want to meet new people when they come to visit. She loves all people and lets everyone know it! She has been an excellent mother to previous puppies and we are looking forward to another award winning litter of puppies from her. She has been very easy to train as well. At only 10 lbs she is the perfect size dog!

Amazing people and amazing dog! John and Allison were so good at all aspects, from breeding, to communicating, to, in my case, also training. I could not be happier about the little dog I got. Thank you to them for everything. I would happily share my great experience with anyone who wants to hear my story. Well done, John and Allison!!

From the very beginning, Allison and John were thoughtful, communicative, and deeply invested in their puppies and the families they go home with. It was clear at every step that they raise their dogs with intention, love, and an incredible amount of care. Bringing Dahlia home has genuinely been life-changing in the best possible way. She is confident, smart, affectionate, curious, and full of personality — and it’s obvious that this didn’t happen by accident. The early socialization, Puppy Culture work, and the way Allison and John truly know each puppy as an individual made such a difference. Dahlia settled into our home with a sense of security and trust that I know comes from being raised so thoughtfully. Allison and John didn’t just “hand over a puppy” — they prepared us, supported us, and clearly cared about both Dahlia and us as her family. Their communication was wonderful, their guidance was reassuring, and their love for their dogs shines through in everything they do. I also can’t say enough about the Coton de Tulear breed itself. Cotons are truly remarkable dogs — intuitive, joyful, deeply bonded to their people, and incredibly intelligent. One small example: Dahlia recently helped “find” a lost item in our backyard that my mom had thought was gone forever. It was such a perfect snapshot of how observant, engaged, and tuned-in she is. If you are lucky enough to bring home one of Allison and John’s puppies, know that you are getting far more than a dog — you are welcoming a beautifully raised companion who will change your life in ways you didn’t even know to expect. I am endlessly grateful to them for Dahlia and for the care, integrity, and heart they put into everything they do.

Allison was fabulous to work with. So few people know about Cotons. We lost our girl at age 14 very unexpectedly and were certain we wanted another puppy of the same breed. We reached out to Allison and quickly communicated daily about puppy availability, health, and personality. We chose a female pup, Millie to add to our family, and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. We live a long distance away from Michigan and knew that driving and flying ourselves would not work for us. Allison and John were super supportive in helping us find and arrange for a puppy flight nanny to bring our newest family member to us just a week ago. They were great about meeting the flight nanny at Grand Rapids and sent Millie along with a warm coat and snacks for the flight. We received all the veterinarian and AKC paperwork to review in advance and all the hard copies came with Millie. She is a great pup and we can't imagine life without her! Allison continues to be available to us for any questions and advice. We can't recommend Sunset Kennels and Allison and John enough. If your are hoping for a Coton de Tulear - these are the folks you need to come to know!

It was such a pleasure working with John and Allison. They were quick to respond and answered all of our questions. I loved getting weekly updates on mom and then when the puppies were born we got weekly pictures with our updates. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and very involved with each step. This experience has shown us what wonderful breeders do and wish all breeders were as thorough and vetting. One thing we were most grateful for was that when we brought our puppy home she had already been introduced to the crate so crate training was a breeze. We also liked that our puppy already knew her name as she was used to hearing that while still with John and Allison. When picking up our puppy, John and Allison were accommodating to our schedule, gave us lots of goodies to take home and checked in afterwards to make sure she was doing well. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend John and Allison to anyone interested in a Coton De Tulear.
