I'm John & Allison C., the breeder behind Cotten's Sunset Kennels located in Ludington, MI. Our high-quality puppies are the result of extensive research and thorough care for our outstanding dogs and puppies. It’s important to us that we continue to improve our program and share our knowledge with our buyer families. We want to better the breed through thorough health testing and selective breeding decisions.
Q. & A. with John & Allison
Why did you start breeding?
We have been involved in some type of dog business for many years. John competed in horseback field trials along with NSTRA trials with his Brittanys, securing 3rd in the nations twice with one of his dogs. We then opened our own dog boarding business. After having so many people ask for our help in training their dogs we decided to start training dogs professionally as well. When we purchased our first Coton we fell in love with the breed immediately! And that is how we finally decided to breed dogs. We want everyone to experience how wonderful the Coton de Tulear breed is!
What makes your program special?
We are not a typical breeder. We are a very small fish in a large pond. We are very particular about what dogs we would ever breed and will only have one or two litters of puppies a year. All of our puppies will be following the Puppy Culture Program so they will be well adjusted and ready for their forever homes.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent dogs
Autumn, mom
Coton de Tulear
About Autumn
Autumn is a very gentle and happy Coton de Tulear. In fact, she may be the happiest dog we have ever met! And as dog trainers we meet a lot of dogs! She is very easy going and has been a dream to train. She is the perfect Coton size and has the ability to adapt to her surroundings very easily. Autumn is always happy and curious as to what is going on. She is content to sit on your lap and take a nap but also loves to play with her toys. She truly has been a dream to own.
Jagger, dad
Coton de Tulear
About Jagger
Jagger is a very laid back and easy going Coton de Tulear. He is my velcro dog and anywhere I go he wants to go with me. However, he is also very independent and we have never had any issues with leaving him etc. He was very easy to train and at times we have used him as our demonstration dog at our Basic Obedience Classes that we teach. Jagger was the main reason we decided to breed Cotons, we want everyone to experience the wonderful world of Cotons!
Maddie, mom
Coton de Tulear
About Maddie
Maddie is our snuggle bug. She loves to just lay in our lap and take a nap. However, she is also the first one to want to meet new people when they come to visit. She loves all people and lets everyone know it! She has been an excellent mother to previous puppies and we are looking forward to another award winning litter of puppies from her. She has been very easy to train as well. At only 10 lbs she is the perfect size dog!
