I'm Carrie J., the breeder behind Country Side Kennels located in Malad City, ID. I offer top-quality Poodle puppies with a focus on health, form, and function. I believe quality is more important than quantity. We raise our litters in our home to help set the foundation for happy and confident puppies to transition well into their forever homes. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to make an impact on each individual puppy!
Q. & A. with Carrie
Why did you start breeding?
I have had dogs all of my life. We first started with pugs and have since moved on to Standards. Piper is my first. Though I have met Standards before and loved them, she has made me fall utterly in love with the breed and my goal is to help produce sound dogs in mind and structure. I am wanting to better my breed and take pride in showing and completing health testing with all of our dogs we will have in our program.
What makes your program special?
We not only Health Test beyond CHIC requirements, but we also compete in various events to title our dogs as well. We compete in Conformation, Rally, Barn Hunt, and Fast Cat. We hope to expand as the years go as well! Our puppies are raised in our home and showered with love and enrichment. We want the best start possible for our puppies that we can provide. We want a relationship with our future families and want them to ask questions!
We temperament test at 7 weeks and evaluate confirmation around 8 weeks to see who will be staying in our program. Once we have chosen our keepers, we will know who will be available to their new homes. We appreciate patience during this time as we know and understand how hard it is to wait!
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, blue, brown, cream, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Country Side Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEwS), Osteochondrodysplasia, Miniature Poodle Type, von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
