Meet the breeder

I'm April P., the breeder behind Crowders Creek Goldens located in Gastonia, NC. We are dedicated to always providing our buyers and our puppies with a positive experience, which includes remaining committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding, training, and rehoming our puppies.

Q. & A. with April

  • Why did you start breeding?

Golden Retrievers have always been my favorite breed. My first job as a teenager was working as the kennel staff at a local veterinary office and I loved it when we boarded and groomed Goldens. I longed for the day I could finally have my own. That day came on a Sunday afternoon in September 2019. Our first family Golden was Hudson, our happy boy, who joined us from a breeder in SC. We loved Hudson so much, we added 2 more in 2021, Havilah our dark red girl and Selah our English Cream. A year later we were blessed with River from another breeder that was downsizing, and our latest addition is Mr. Maverick our beautiful English Cream stud.
  • What makes your program special?

We strive for excellence in our work and are committed to producing dogs that will bring joy and companionship to their owners. It is our belief that the Golden Retriever is one of the best family dogs you could ever own. All our dogs are members of our family and stay indoors but love being outside running and playing on our nearly 5-acre property. Our sires and dams are DNA genetically tested and cleared through Embark and have been certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for eyes, heart, hips and elbows as recommended by the Golden Retriever Club of America. We raise our puppies strictly indoors with early socialization, handling, and behavior shaping using a blend of Puppy Culture and Avidog methods. We aim to provide a strong foundation for our puppies that will prepare our new families for success with their new companion.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Crowders Creek Goldens is fantastic. April is extremely kind and she puts in a lot of work on these little pups before you pick them up! She vetted us to make sure we would be great owners for one of her pups, which is a major green flag! We loved the daily updates on Facebook and love that we can continue to see our girl, Maisy, and her litter mates posted on there! Maisy is extremely intelligent, athletic, and absolutely adorable. We appreciate the socializing and exposure April did in the 8 weeks before we picked her up, producing a confident puppy! We could not be happier!

April was amazing to work with. Her desensitization and socialization program is incredible. She is quick to respond and communicates well. Our baby girl, Finley, is such an amazing puppy. Gorgeous, smart, and loving. When I told April my plans to do agility and dock diving, she helped us find the best puppy for our family and matched her temperament perfectly.

April was so kind and knowledgeable about goldens, and helped guide me through the process of choosing my first pup! Before I was even sure about adopting one, she spoke to me on the phone about the responsibility it would entail, training resources, supplies, and the best foods/supplement options for a happy and healthy pup. She is very involved in the process and always open to questions. Thanks to her, I have found my best friend in the world!

April was wonderful to work with! Her dogs are loved and treated like family. She loves this breed and is committed to raising quality dogs and guiding them to the families she works with. She was always available for a phone call or text question. I would recommend her and crowders creek goldens to anyone who is looking for their new best friend. And the puppy we received has been a blessing. He is sweet, gentle, welcoming to strangers, happy to be trained, and a joy to have him.

April was fantastic to work with. She introduces the pups to all kinds of different things so that they’re not afraid of anything when you get them. I loved it when she texted me before I picked up the puppy to let me know about my puppies personality. Chloe is adorable and fitting in beautifully. I would highly recommend.

We are so incredibly grateful for our fur baby, Tucker, from Crowders Creek Goldens. April was the absolute best to work with throughout the entire process. From the very beginning, April was transparent about her breeding philosophy, puppy care, and puppy exposure to the great new world. She dedicated lots of time throughout the first 8 weeks of puppyhood to prepare our Tucker and his littermates for their new homes. April was very communicative with any questions we had and kept us informed of how the puppies were doing before coming home. Tucker has been a wonderful, well-mannered puppy and we have April to thank for that! Her golden retrievers are simply the best. We've already passed along April's information to our family and friends to find their next best friend.
