I'm the breeder behind Delaney Working Dogs located in Effingham County, IL. I produce pups that have the ability to excel in their chosen field, whether that be working, or as an active companion. I hand-raise all of my dogs with love in my home. I have high expectations for my puppies and make sure to place each one with an enriching and loving family complementary to their personality and ability!
Q. & A. with Mike
Why did you start breeding?
Because of my dedication to both the physical and mental health of these incredible dogs, I breed to pass these traits down to future generations. It is important to me not only that I preserve my own phenomenal bloodlines, but that I am improving this breed with each litter and ensuring the well-being of these dogs for generations more to come!
What makes your program special?
I am an experienced breeder, and I take my role seriously. I keep a variety of factors in mind when choosing dogs to breed, including health, temperament, pedigree, and complementary traits, so that puppies can inherit the best of both parents.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Ivy, mom
German Shepherd
About Ivy
Ivy is a fun, happy social girl. Safe to take anywhere and around anyone. She gets along with or ignores other dogs, cats and wildlife. She has high toy and food drive, which makes her a very willing training partner. She is linebred 3-4 on the great German producer Nash Lisdorferland and Carries lines to some of the great German and Czech working dog producers.
Vasco, dad
German Shepherd
About Vasco
Vasco v. Tiekerhook is a large Black and Tan import male. 80 pounds in working condition.
Love to work in IGP dog sports but when not working loves to hang out with family. He is high drive, but not hectic. He settles nicely when not working.
Frito, mom
German Shepherd
About Frito
Frito is a high drive working female. 2 times IGP 3. Always high protection score.
Good “off” switch so she settles nicely in the house and around family and other pets.
A perfect representation of what a GSD should be.
A top working dog that can be a family dog when not working.
Feebee is a female German Shepherd. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Mike decided to make her part of their program. Mike has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Delaney Working Dogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Mike was great to work with. You could tell he was knowledgeable about German Shephards and very responsive to all of our questions. He was willing to work with us on delivery of our puppy and you could tell he genuinely cares about his dogs. We would be happy to work with him again.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
