Meet the breeder

I'm Stephany C., the breeder behind Della Serra Pekingese located in Bel Air, MD. Excellent health, temperament & intelligence are the foundations of our small program. Our dogs are OFA certified (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and have also had complete genetic (DNA) health panels done. Before our puppies leave for their new homes, they receive complete physical & orthopedic examinations by our veterinarian(s). Additionally, they are vaccinated appropriately for their age, have a fecal check and are microchipped. Each of our dogs and puppies are raised in our home. They’re provided the best of veterinary care, excellent nutrition, daily socialization, enrichment activities and most importantly, a lot of love. Our heart and soul is poured into each one of our dogs and every single puppy. The result: healthy, intelligent and very happy companions.

Q. & A. with Stephany

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was a Junior handler showing & competing with working & hunting breeds. While I adored each of them and am forever grateful for everything they’ve taught me, I was always smitten with the Pekingese breed. I couldn’t help being drawn to their ring and would stand in awe of these regal little creatures. Their beauty, confidence and commanding presence fascinated me. I became hopelessly hooked on this incredible little breed & their larger than life personalities.
  • What makes your program special?

I am a small hobby breeder. I never breed just to breed - our litters are carefully planned to continue improving upon the health, function, structure and temperament in our lines. We painstakingly select our dogs to enhance the attributes listed above while simultaneously working to avoid the exaggerations that often cause health issues in the breed. We work very closely with our veterinarians. Our dogs and puppies are always our top priority and receive optimal care. Early socialization & neurological stimulation begins shortly after birth and throughout the puppies early weeks with us. We introduce our puppies to novel sounds, sights, smells, textures, people and situations. Potty training begins at 3 weeks of age in the whelping box and they tend to learn very quickly. We offer our new owners support for the lifetime of their new family member. We are available to assist with any questions or concerns you may have about your puppy at any time.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, cream, fawn, fawn sable, red, and red sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
