I'm Amy D., the breeder behind Dogma Pointers & Bulldogs located in Youngsville, NC. Dogma began showing Great Danes in 2004 after 9 years of breed involvement. Dogma fell in love with Pointers in 2014 and Bulldogs in 2021. Dedicated to preservation breeding, Dogma strives to better each generation with focus on health, temperament, and correct conformation. AKC Breeder of Merit.
Q. & A. with Amy
Why did you start breeding?
We did not breed until we got into showing Great Danes, and then only bred selectively for our next show prospect for the ring. We have litters when we are looking to continue with the next generations of our lines, meaning that we are not breeding for the pet market specifically- merely only that the additional puppies produced beyond our show prospect are made available to companion homes.
What makes your program special?
Our litters are carefully bred to reflect the unique qualities of each breed as closely as possible- meaning the temperament, structure and health of our dogs are designed to match what the AKC breed standard calls for. As members of the parent clubs of our breed, we are sworn to pledge to produce dogs that most closely match these standards, to continue to preserve and caretake the breeds.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Bulldog puppies include fallow, red, fawn, white, brindle, red brindle and white, red and white, fawn brindle and white, and fawn and white. Pointer puppies include lemon and white, liver and white, orange and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Waldo Wilberforce
Waldo is a happy, loving goofball that possesses crazy athleticism, even at 11 1/2. With a watchful eye outside, Waldo is super birdy and driven in the field. Waldo was raised with our sons and loves kids and other animals, especially his puppies. Waldo wasn’t shown until he was almost 5, but has both of his majors and just needed 4 singles to finish his AKC championship, when COVID shut down shows for almost a year. As he never cared much about being at shows and was going very grey, we decided to retire him from the show ring (Despite not finishing, he has sired an AKC champion daughter- the only one from his first litter who was shown). He loves being the “dude” of the household, and enjoys playing outside with his champion grandsons!
Great health testing
Hip Dysplasia Finals (OFA, PennHIP, BVA, SV, FCI), Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA).
Moon Pie, mom
Pointer
About Moon Pie
Moon Pie is the silliest, happiest, and sweetest dog at Dogma. Moon Pie oozes Pointer breed type and is the epitome of the temperament that the standard calls for, something that has been lacking as of late in some other breeder’s programs. Confident, friendly, and cheerful, she is birdy and incredibly intelligent. Have you ever seen a Pointer “smile”? Moon Pie does! Moon Pie has had one litter prior of incredible offspring, with one son finishing his AKC championship at 7 months old (and another who already just needs a few singles to finish, at not even a year old)! She is the best mother we have ever had, who loves her babies like no other- and will let them nurse for forever to be able to have the snuggle time with them. LOL
PINK, mom

About PINK
PINK is a female Bulldog. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Amy decided to make her part of their program. Amy has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Dogma Pointers & Bulldogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Bulldogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Tracheal Hypoplasia, Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Cystinuria Type 3 (Variant 3), Bulldog Type Risk Factor, Cystinuria Type 3 (Variant 1 & 2), Bulldog Type Risk Factor, Hyperuricosuria (HUU)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
