Q. & A. with Elyzza

  • Why did you start breeding?

My journey into dog breeding began with a lifelong love for animals, inspired by my close bond with my mother. We saw a need for well-bred, family-oriented dogs and decided to make our passion a reality. I immersed myself in learning about genetics and health standards, leading to the founding of Down Home Doodle, where I focus on connecting families with the perfect canine companions.
  • What makes your program special?

Down Home Doodle is dedicated to breeding exceptional bernedoodles that are perfect family companions. We prioritize responsible practices, conducting extensive health testing and using non-fading genetics from around the world. Our puppies come with a 2-year health guarantee, and families can enroll them in our training programs, supported by a team with over 100 years of combined experience.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include tiny, mini, medium, and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include brown, tri-color, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Elyzza and her team were wonderful to work with! We did a lot of research for our Bernedoodle baby and were cautious about who we worked with as there are so many scammers out there. Down Home Doodle is the real deal! Our Lucky girl is healthy, well behaved and a wonderful addition to our family ❤️

We have been so happy with our experience with Down Home Doodle. We had narrowed down the breeds we were interested in to the ones that had a reputation to be good with kids as we were planning on starting a family. We found Down Home Doodle and they have evidence-based socialization and training programs so that if you want them to be able to deliver a high quality, well-trained, well-behaved puppy, that is exactly what they will and can do, and what they did do with us with Hugo. Hugo has been a great dog, he is almost seven months old and we get so many compliments on how well-behaved he is from family, friends, and neighbors and their pups we see on our walks. He was the only family dog invited to the family Christmas party, if that tells you anything. He has been healthy, and maybe we got lucky with his individual temperament, but he is such a patient, kind dog, and probably the best big furry brother we could have hoped for, for our newborn daughter. He came to us well-trained and eager to learn new tricks, so now in his repertoire he knows sit, place, paw, touch, down (lay down), and we taught him high five, spin, and "hands in" like everyone putting their hands into a huddle (there was a viral challenge not that long ago where people were doing this with their dogs). If we were looking for another Bernedoodle in the future, we would most likely go back to Down Home Doodle for another great dog.

I was scammed by a breeder on Facebook looking for a mini bernedoodle in August 2025. I lost $500 and I am thankful not more. My husbands secretary suggested Good Dog and I reluctantly reached out. I was so impressed when I connectwd with Elyzza. She listened and spent a lot of time earning my trust. She always responded and help us select the perfect puppy! We have had Sloopy for a few months and we are so happy with her! She is great with our big family and all 10 grandchildren. We love when grandchildren call just to try talking to her. Our neighborhood children love her too! She is everything Elyzza shared and is very smart as well. Our local vet gave her a great update on her health. She is a very special family member and cannot imagine her not heing here. We got 14 inches of snow today and she loves that to! Thank you Elyzza for your attention to our needs and connecting us with Sloopy!

Working with Elyssa was great! Her team is very responsive and provided so much helpful information to help the transition of Teddy coming to live with us. We love him so much, and we are so thankful for Elyssa and her team for Teddy. Would certainly recommend Down Home doodle if you’re looking to adopt.
