Q. & A. with Elyzza

  • Why did you start breeding?

My journey into dog breeding began with a lifelong love for animals, inspired by my close bond with my mother. We saw a need for well-bred, family-oriented dogs and decided to make our passion a reality. I immersed myself in learning about genetics and health standards, leading to the founding of Down Home Doodle, where I focus on connecting families with the perfect canine companions.
  • What makes your program special?

Down Home Doodle is dedicated to breeding exceptional bernedoodles that are perfect family companions. We prioritize responsible practices, conducting extensive health testing and using non-fading genetics from around the world. Our puppies come with a 2-year health guarantee, and families can enroll them in our training programs, supported by a team with over 100 years of combined experience.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include tiny, mini, medium, and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include chocolate merle, brown, tri-color, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

We couldn't be happier with our experience with Down Home Doodle. From the very beginning, communication was clear, responsive, and professional. The detailed information provided on both our puppy and his parents gave us great confidence throughout the process. Freddie (formerly Bamm Bamm) arrived in excellent health and received a clean bill of health from our local veterinarian. We were also amazed by the foundation he had already been given through the socialization program. He came home essentially crate-trained and nearly potty-trained, which made the transition so much easier. What stands out most is Freddie's temperament. He's a puppy, of course, but he is incredibly smart, trainable, responsive, and loving. We have a 20-month-old son, and he and Freddie have already become best friends. There are many things to consider when choosing a breeder, and Down Home Doodle exceeded our expectations in every area: health, genetics, communication, transportation, follow-up, and temperament. We couldn't recommend them more highly.

Elyzza made the entire process so easy and enjoyable. She helped us choose the perfect puppy based on personality, communicated with us every step of the way, and stayed in touch throughout the entire process. Thanks to her, we found the perfect pup for our family, and we couldn’t be happier with our newest addition. We highly recommend working with Elyzza!

The entire from finding Jackpot, to learning more about him and Down Home Doodle, to Jack arriving at our home was an amazing experience. Down Home stayed in constant contact with us on the process and worked with us to find the best method to transport him to us from Ohio. It was easy to tell he had been well cared for and was a great puppy. We would recommend Down Home Doodle and Good Dog to anyone looking for a new puppy.

We chose to get a Bernedoodle because we love big dogs and we have a son with dog allergies, so needed the hypoallergenic coat. We found Down Home Doodle on GoodDog and it was clear that they offered a great variety of bernedoodles in sizes and coat variations, with a range of prices for every budget. We also had her “delivered” to us and that experience was seamless and communication was clear every step of the way. This was absolutely the most we’ve ever spent on a dog, and it was worth every cent! We decided to get Josephine on a Thursday, and by the following Wednesday she was home! She was about 13 weeks old when we got her, and in that extra time with Elyzza she came to us seemingly fully potty trained, and was comfortable with walking with a leash, socializing with people and dogs, following commands, people touching ears and feet, etc. She also had all vet appointments and vaccinations completed, with exception of rabies. Her beautiful, crazy hair is the perfect compliment to her sweet and playful personality. She is lazy and cuddly with bursts of energy mostly in the morning. She sleeps in her cage all night, only getting up once to go potty. We have 8 and 11 year old sons, but based upon Jo we wouldn’t hesitate to add a Bernedoodle to our home if they were younger. I hope all of this has helped you decide that not only is a Bernedoodle perfect for you, but a Bernedoodle from Down Home Doodle. Their love and attention is truly priceless, and their full list of resources and timely answers to questions made this experience truly special.
