Meet the breeder

I'm Courtney R., the breeder behind Em-K Kennels located in Abingdon, VA. At Em-K Breeding and Training, we aim to raise exceptional animals in a loving and caring environment. We're dedicated to following a responsible breeding program, so our focus is on keeping our animals healthy and happy for when they find their new homes. Our puppies are well socialized with other dogs, cats, and children.

Q. & A. with Courtney

  • Why did you start breeding?

Courtneys first pet as an adult was a Corgi. She was the best dog I’ve ever had and I loved her dearly. She passed away at 6 from a brief illness. Which is why I focus on health in my breeding program.
  • What makes your program special?

Courtney watched her parent’s breeding program growing up. They taught her how to be a good breeder and how to review and choose who was a perfect fit for each puppy. Being a responsible breeder makes you special in a world where everyone is just out to make money. We as breeders forget the reason we started breeding, our love of dogs and wanting to provide the best quality of the breed we love!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include fawn, red, sable, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Courtney was the best breeder! We love our little Sophie so much! She is such an angel 😇 she let us know when she needed to go potty and we took her out and so far no messes. I have never had a 10 week old puppy who was already potty trained. She is an amazing little girl who loves cats and dogs and cuddles

Courtney was amazing at answering all of my questions in a detailed and timely manner. She was so nice and helped me through the process. My puppy pepper is so good and I can tell she was raised with love.

We had the most wonderful experience with Courtney. She was exceptionally communicative and informative, providing weekly updates and photos, and answering all my questions. I was truly impressed with her responsiveness. We are grateful to GoodDog for making it so much easier to connect with an outstanding, ethical breeder like Courtney. My husband raised an eyebrow when I told him that the puppy of our dreams was 6 hours away from home, but it was well worth it. We had to delay puppy pickup by a week because of a conflict with a holiday, so Courtney spent that extra week getting him started on his training: crate, leash, sit, come, sleeping through the night and going potty outside. Although we know we need to continue reinforcing these concepts, it was a huge relief to know that he came to us with those building blocks in place. It's worth noting that when I called Courtney's local vet to get the records for our new vet, the receptionist told me how lucky I was to have an Em-K puppy because they are so well cared for. We are just so in love with our little Llewellyn (Louie). He has the sweetest temperment, is playful, loving, and great with our kids. Our vet said he's the most beautiful puppy she's ever seen, and she was so impressed with his behavior. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Courtney!

We had an amazing experience with Courtney! She was incredibly communicative throughout the process, and we especially appreciated the weekly "pupdates" that kept us excited and well-informed. Our new Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy has quickly become a cherished member of our family—she's both well-mannered and affectionate. We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience.

Courtney is very responsive to messages. She’s making sure that she answer all the questions you have about the puppy and about the process and the paper work before. The process was very smooth to get our new puppies home. The payment is straight forward too.
