Q. & A. with Nancy
Why did you start breeding?
I first discovered the Papillon breed at a dog show and fell in love with their unique butterfly-like ears. After searching for four years, I finally found my first Papillon. This experience sparked my interest in the breed, and I began researching everything I could about them. I was fascinated by their rich history, which dates back to the 16th century 1. The breed was originally called the Continental Toy Spaniel and was depicted in paintings by the Old Masters of Western Europe 1. The breed’s name was changed to Papillon, which means “butterfly” in French, due to its butterfly-like ears 12.
After learning more about the breed, I decided that I wanted to contribute to sharing this beautiful breed with the world while also improving on the breed. I began breeding Papillons and have been doing so ever since. I’m proud to be a part of the Papillon community and to help preserve this wonderful breed for future generations.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program is special because I provide puppies with a comprehensive training program that includes a two-week Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) Training. This training is designed to help puppies develop their nervous systems and improve their overall health and well-being. Additionally, puppies are show quality and cleared by parentage of PRA/NAD/VWB1/Factor VII, which means that they are free from certain genetic diseases. Finally, puppies are crate and potty trained on pee pads, which makes them easier to care for and helps them adjust to their new homes more quickly .
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and black, sable, and black red and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
