I'm Kathryn G., the breeder behind Flambeau Poodles located in Harrodsburg, KY. For over 50 years, we have bred beautiful, sound, sane and family oriented miniature poodles. All our poodles are champions for quality control and house dogs for temerament and socialization and companionship! Home raised puppies "under foot" for socialization from health-tested champions result in great poodles for family companions, show, or performance homes (obedience, agility). I put a lot of effort into producing phenomenal litters and have high expectations for where my puppies go. Let's see if you're a good fit for a Flambeau Poodle!
Q. & A. with Kathryn
Why did you start breeding?
I originally wanted a good breed for obedience work...considered a GSD, but they shed all over me! I was sold on the smart, non-shedding aspects of the miniature poodle...I bought my first one from a breeder who showed and introduced me to conformation. That first poodle attained her CDX title in obedience, winning 7 trophies in one day!
What makes your program special?
We are small, hands-on and take special pride in our 56 year old bloodlines. We do health testing and breed to the breed standard. Our puppies are beautiful, healthy and have great temperaments, because we breed for that.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
