Q. & A. with Melanie
Why did you start breeding?
The love of animals and bad experiences with other breeders.
What makes your program special?
EMPOWERED BREEDER ~ EMPOWERING PUPPIES TO BELIEVE IN THEIR OWN ABILITIES!
The Badass Guide to Breeding is our preferred curriculum. The goal of empowered breeding is to produce dogs that are healthy, well-adjusted, and able to thrive in a variety of environments. It is a proactive approach to breeding that aims to reduce the occurrence of inherited health problems and improve the overall health and well-being of the breed.
The Badass Breeder puppy-raising curriculum, devolved by Jeanette Forrey, involves the intentional handling and exposure to new stimuli, including new scents, sights, sounds, textures, people, and places during their critical socialization periods which empowers puppies to be confident. This is the difference between average and Bad Ass!
Both parents are AKC & CKC registered, health tested and have passed their OFA certifications.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are mini size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white and tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
