I'm Bev K., the breeder behind Foto Danes located in Newton, IA. I am a breeder of Great Danes with a focus on health, temperament, and soundness. I teach public obedience classes. I own/bred/trained/handled Bing, who stars in The Friend with Naomi Watts and Bill Murray. I co-breed with others, including BWitch Danes in St Louis, where the current litter lives.
Q. & A. with Bev
Why did you start breeding?
My first Dane came from a bad breeder and had massive temperament issues. I learned how important the role of a breeder is in the life of each dog and their families. I got involved in showing, with my dogs earning titles in conformation and obedience. My Bing stars in The Friend! I have devoted countless time and effort into education, breeding, training, and showing these wonderful dogs.
What makes your program special?
I am very involved in showing, clubs, training, and many other aspects of the dog world. Both nature and nurture shape our dogs and I ensure that I start with the best and do my part those first 8 weeks, to create a healthy, stable dog. Check out my website for more information on my policies and practices, and guidance from me on topics such as health testing, diet, and more.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include harlequin, mantle, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
