I'm Jessika R., the breeder behind Gallant Akitas located in Indianapolis, IN. We offer quality companion Akitas, from Champion and Health Tested Akitas. We only breed Champion, Health-Tested Akita's that benefit the future of this amazing breed. Our dogs are our lives, our best friends, and our family members. We care deeply about the well-being of this breed and have built our love and respect for the breed into every aspect of our program.

Why did you start breeding?
It started as a love for the breed and then evolved into wanting to support the preservation of the Akita. Not only did I want to produce beautiful Akitas, but I also wanted to produce an Akita with an amazing temperament and long life span. Seeing so many bad breeders producing aggressive dogs that led to things like breed bans and families losing their dogs to health issues, I wanted to preserve the good.What makes your program special?
I have been so lucky to be mentored by a few top-quality breeders, who helped shaped the breed that we see today. I have a love for the “old school” lines and will occasionally breed back to dogs from the mid-’90s or 2000s. I am partial to the “Big, Red, Bear Type” Akitas that scream breed type. But I also focus heavily on temperament to ensure I’m producing mentally sound dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (Preliminary)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
