Q. & A. with Heather
Why did you start breeding?
During my career as a veterinarian, I have watched numerous Great Dane patients come to the hospital suffering from health problems that could easily been prevented by good breeding. I decided that I wanted to produce healthy, happy dogs who would be with their families for many many years to come.
What makes your program special?
Come see us on TikTok @lovemypups72 and Genai Great Danes on Facebook In the Great Dane breed, many health conditions are linked with the color of the coat. We strictly adhere to ethical breeding practices, which means we only breed approved AKC coat colors. We work with Embark, who partners with Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine, to test each one of our parent dogs to see what colors they carry and what health traits they have. Our color lines are blue, black, harlequin, and merle. We do not breed spot to spot, as that can result in puppies with vision and hearing problems.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Heather was so quick to respond! All of her puppies were so cute…it was hard to choose. We are so happy with our sweet willow rose!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
