I'm Alicia E., the breeder behind GLAD's Goldens located in Sacramento, CA. We raise puppies that lives up to everything you’d want in a family dog: friendly, welcoming, playful, and easy-going. They play well with each other and eat their food peacefully. Each would make a fantastic forever friend.
We are committed to only bringing the best puppies into the world, which is why our sire and dam are AKC registered and received full OFA screenings for hips and elbow dysplasia. All our pups will arrive in homes healthy and fully vaccinated.
Q. & A. with Alicia
Why did you start breeding?
Growing up, I (Alicia) had the opportunity to help my mom raise 2 litters of puppies, one of which became my family’s pet and was with me through my best and hardest days as a young mom. Through all of this I learned how important the right dog is to a family. I’m honored to be doing this for others.
What makes your program special?
Our puppies serve a big purpose. ALL of the proceeds from this litter will sponsor a student in our nonprofit GLAD Technology’s summer web development program, where they will learn an employable technical skill that can help lift their families out of poverty. You can learn more about our story at www.gladtech.org/glads-goldens.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are dark golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Betty
We chose Betty as our family dog because she was exceptional. Her parents came from a long line of quality retrievers, known for their dark copper color and sweet disposition. She lives up to her namesake, Betty White: playful but kind and gentle (she was also born the day Betty White died, which feels like a beautiful tribute to her legacy). She is a calm dog who is content to spend her time lounging with the family in the living room. But she also loves adventure, and regularly goes out on the American River on our paddle board.
Her disposition makes her line great for families.
Betty is AKC registered, and has cleared the OFA certifications for hip and elbows. Her parents did not carry any genetic markers in their DNA for issues.
Good health testing
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA), +1 more.
Parent health testing
GLAD's Goldens reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Working with Alicia was AMAZING! This was me and my boyfriends first puppy together and he has been such a blessing. Alicia made the process so easy for us! We had a phone call the day before and was super transparent on the temperament of the puppy we were hoping to adopt.
When we met Orange (the soon to be Max) we knew he was the one. We took him home that day! She gave us one of his mommas blankets and a bag of kibble to last us a few days. She has kept in touch with us and always wants to see how Max is doing. We can't thank Alicia enough...SHE IS AWESOME!

Alicia was the sweetest! We found the cutest puppy and reached out to her on Good Dog. She was very responsive and even allowed us to FaceTime her to see all the pups! We had a somewhat long drive and she drove a bit further to lessen our drive. Would definitely recommend!!! When we are in the market for another golden in the future, I’ll definitely be going back to her Golden Family!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
