I'm Paige W., the breeder behind Gold Country Golden Retrievers located in Sacramento Area, CA. We have been working with this phenomenal breed since 1986. We breed for calm, healthy puppies to provide quality companionship for other loving homes. We also have bred amazing therapy and service use Golden Retrievers. We are confident that you will fall in love with our pups just as we have. We are so excited to introduce you to the Golden Retriever of your dreams!
Q. & A. with Paige
Why did you start breeding?
We got our first Golden in the early 1980's. Tesla (after the scientist!) was an amazing example of a Golden. She was from a hunting line and was wicked smart, loving, intuitive and calm. Our family and friends all loved her and wanted puppies. All of her puppies went to our family members and friends. We kept her son from her last litter, and he became our Foundation male. He lived to be 17.
What makes your program special?
Because we wanted calm dogs in our household, calm dogs was our priority. I focused on selecting just the right puppy from the litter, sometimes several litters to get just the right dogs for our program. In selectively breeding for calm, we bred wonderful puppies for therapy/service work. Most of our breeding dogs were in classrooms. Easy care coats and health were two other considerations.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Three of these lovely ladies are still available. These wonderful puppies are eating three hearty, homemade meals a day. They have been introduced to the out of doors one at a time, and will be going into the puppy yard as a group to play for small amounts of times-5-30 minutes over the next week. The puppies are learning to play respectfully with each other and me. They are sleeping and quiet at night for ten or more hours! I cannot say enough how wonderful this litter of puppies is! I am so tempted to keep one of these wonderful girls for our family!

The puppies have been started on food. It is a homemade recipe created for healthy minds and bodies, and then put into a blender. Right now they eat twice a day plus mom. They will be having three meals a day next week and until after they go to their forever families. They are coming into the living room during the day to get used to new sights, smells and become accustomed to a higher activity level. They are truly amazing at using their wee wee pads.

Our Valentine’s girls are 2+ weeks old. They can really get around. I’ve put a wee wee pad in for them, and several are already using it! They are putting their energy into mobility and learning about their environment. They have just started to explore the variety of toys available to them and play with each other.

Litter update on 24 Feb. •
The puppies are a week and half old now. I put a bunch of toys in with them for some tactile experiences (and removed most later as Pebbles didn’t want to step around that many “puppies.” I also put in a wee wee pad since some of them are getting around pretty well. The flat crinkle toys seemed to garner the most attention. They are so mellow to handle- definitely going to be a bunch of cuddle bugs!

About Pebbles
This is Cosmo and Pebbles’ third litter. They have made incredible puppies. Their puppies have become therapy dogs, service dogs, and wonderful family companion dogs. Their offspring are smart, sweet, loving and easy to train. They are beautiful dogs with easy care coats. Pebbles is a wonderful mother and Cosmo is a “paws on” father. He shows them where they should go potty outside, introduces them to ball play and tug of war. As parents they watch over the puppies playtimes making sure they don’t get too rough with each other. The puppies are raised inside our home, eat homemade specially prepared food as they are weaned. They are all socialized and handled daily. We know our puppies and look forward to helping you pick your just right companion.

I waited awhile after losing my 12 year old Golden retriever before I started looking for another puppy. I researched quite a few breeders before finding Paige of Gold Country Golden Retreivers. How lucky I was to find her because she is so dedicated to raising such healthy beautiful puppies in a kind and nurturing manner. She sent updates of all of the puppies during their first weeks and provided great information and insight on each puppy when it was time for me to select my Lucy. She continues to give great advice and assistance when I have a question. Lucy is a smart, healthy, curious, and healthy puppy who brings me great joy.
