I'm Deborah P., the breeder behind Goldenloch Kennel located in Grapeland, TX. Goldenloch Kennel was named for the Scottish roots of the Golden Retriever. “Loch” is Scottish for lake and my Goldens lived on the lake. My goal is to breed for health, temperament, structure, performance and pleasing looks.
Q. & A. with Deborah
Why did you start breeding?
My neighbor in Houston was an owner of Interquest Detection Canines. He gave me my first Golden, Prince Luke of Copperfield “Luke”. Although Luke was a dropout, he was my first golden and the start of it all. He was never interested in hunting or working, but he was a wonderful companion.
In 1994, I went in search of a Golden with a hunting background. I was very particular about how the goldens looked. I was blessed to be referred to Mercedes Hitchcock of Belvedere Kennel, who sold me my first and second Master Hunters, Dyna and Bracken. I had never even heard of hunt tests but thought they might be fun, and here I am many years, dogs, titles and lifelong friends later.
What makes your program special?
My goal is to breed for health, temperament, structure, performance and pleasing looks. The breed standard states that Golden Retrievers are primarily hunting dogs. I am most interested in placing puppies in competitive (field, obedience or agility) or working homes (hunting, search & rescue and therapy). My ideal puppy home is a competitive or working and family home. I will consider placing puppies in family homes, if they have an active lifestyle. My puppies do best when provided lots of exercise and stimulation.
