Q. & A. with Cathy

  • Why did you start breeding?

For 16 years, our family raised Seeing Eye puppies for the blind. This journey of taking these Seeing Eye puppies everywhere to meet everyone, training them how to behave in all situations, was with the sole purpose to prepare them to change another person's life... but it actually changed our lives! It has led us to a new journey of raising and preparing Golden Retriever puppies who are healthy, trained, socialized and loved for all kinds of people... for all kinds of needs. We saw firsthand that these Goldens will pour their love into anyone who opens their heart and surround them with love. So that is our hope...to raise excellent Goldens that can be placed where they can flourish and enrich another person's life.
  • What makes your program special?

The Seeing Eye Puppies we raised were known as “Puppies with a Purpose”. So our family has committed to continue this journey of raising “puppies with a purpose” for others. We have seen the Goldens restore, heal, enhance and give confidence to all they meet. Their drive to be close, to love, and to be loved is an innate drive and gift of the Goldens. So our goal and prayer is that you too will be enriched by the gift of love this puppy will give you!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

We spent a lot of time researching dogs and what would be a good fit for our family at the time and into the future. When we ultimately settled on getting a golden retriever, we also found that there were so many breeding options and not all of them were equal. We wanted a breeder who cared not just about the transaction but the puppies and most importantly the adult dogs as well. We were lucky enough to stumble onto Tim and Cathy’s webpage and they were so knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. They were easy to get in touch with, always made time for any follow-up questions and have been accessible and caring with their advice over the years. We brought our nearly 3 year old (born Feb 2023) girl, Mabel home in April of 2023 and she has been a delight and has added so much joy to our family. Golden’s all have their own unique personalities and quirks, and Mabel certainly has hers, but it is very clear she was cared for and loved in Cathy and Tim’s care and has continued to be in our home as well. Cathy did a great job building a base of socialization and early training and we have continued to build on that. Upon arrival to our home and our vet she was given a clean bill of health and thankfully has remained in great heath. We would confidently recommend Golden’s Retreat to anyone thinking about getting a golden retriever puppy.

We could not be more thankful to Cathy and her husband from Goldens Retreat! They were so interested in ensuring that we had the most amazing, personal experience from the moment we initially communicated! They ensured that we visited with and became fully immersed with multiple puppies to determine the best fit for our son (spoiler: we did NOT end up with the first puppy we looked at). Cathy answered all of our many questions since we had never owned a Golden before. Everything within the process was smooth and we had consistent communication throughout the purchase process! The follow-up communication has been amazing and they are always available to answer questions and have a wealth of knowledge about the breed and raising dogs to be the healthiest and happiest they can be, physically, mentally, and socially! Would definitely highly recommend them to anyone who wants to give a good dog a great home!
