I'm Karil G., the breeder behind Graystone Standard Poodles located in Viola, ID. We keep a variety of factors in mind when choosing dogs to breed, including health, temperament, structure and pedigree. We raise puppies using Puppy Culture and Avidog. Our puppies are placed after temperament testing to make sure they are a good match for their new home.
Q. & A. with Karil
Why did you start breeding?
We had an alpaca ranch and loved the cria season. The gestation period for an alpaca is 11.5 months, so a long wait time for birthing. We often had a dozen or more babies a year. After selling the ranch, we became interested in Standard Poodles. We now wish we had done that so much earlier! They are amazing dogs, smart and capable of so much. We love them!
What makes your program special?
Like most breeders we concentrate on the big three...temperament, health and structure. We tend to list temperament first because we feel it's critical to whatever life a dog is going to live. Because of the genetic bottleneck in poodles, we also strive for diversity in our breeding. Since we have the ability to test for it our goal is to have a breeding pair be as unrelated as possible.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, blue, parti, phantom, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
