I'm Wynne E., the breeder behind Great Lakes Poodles located in Tawas City, MI. Our breeding program started with one small litter that turned into a fulfilling, lifelong passion! We believe there’s no greater joy than providing families with a loving canine companion. Our dogs are bred for health, temperament, and intelligence. Many of our poodles are trained as service dogs.
Q. & A. with Wynne
Why did you start breeding?
I have always been an animal lover. My love of the poodle breed started fifteen years ago with our first standard poodle-Dasher. My family and I have been breeding miniature and moyen poodles for ten years. We like the smaller size and strive to perfect the poodle breed.
What makes your program special?
Our poodles have had their DNA tested through UC Davis and PawPrint Genetics. None of our dogs are carriers for commonly known disorders. Tests have been done on eyes, hips, and elbows.
All of my dogs have been tested and scored for diversity. When considering any dog, it is best to research and ask questions. I am happy to share what I have learned.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies include miniature and moyen sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, apricot, black, blue, brown, cream, red, silver, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Grace, mom
Poodle
About Grace
Grace is queen of our pack and she is a fair ruler. She only gets mad at other dogs when they are not following the rules of the house. Grace belongs to my son, David. She and him have "talks" where he'll share his day and she responds. It's very endearing and they are very close. Grace is a descendant of poodles that came to us from Germany.
Birdie, mom
Poodle
About Birdie
Birdie is a snuggle-bug. She enjoys watching TV and fetching a ball. Birdie fits into family life well as she is one of those dogs that acts like a person. She likes being with people, sleeping in, exploring nature on walks, and loves all kinds of food--she's not a picky eater. Birdie brings a smile to everyone that she meets.
Kala, mom
Poodle
About Kala
Kala is a sweet and quiet miniature poodle. She enjoys being by her people and going for car rides. Kala is very observant; she watches and takes in everything around her with ears pricked up and sometimes a side tilted head. I adore her immensely. She is super easy to live with. There is no aggression in her or unwillingness to share treats with the other poodles in our home.
Essi, mom
Poodle
About Essi
Essi is a chill poodle who enjoys being with her family. She loves laying on the couch and greeting everyone when they come home. I affectionately call Essi a couch potatoe. Oh! She is big on smiles. She will flash a toothy grin when walking up to you.
Mittens, mom
Poodle
About Mittens
Michigan Mittens is my "shadow" dog. Wherever I go, there she is not too far behind. I love her immensely! She is a great listener and aims to please--like most poodles do. She is easy-going; she is not dominant and doesn't exhibit prey drive--squirrels don't faze her.
Mittens, mom
Poodle
About Mittens
Mittens is a female Poodle. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Wynne decided to make her part of their program. Wynne has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Coco, mom
Poodle
About Coco
Coco is a female Poodle. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Wynne decided to make her part of their program. Wynne has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Yooper, mom
Poodle
About Yooper
Sooper Yooper is all about treats (she likes all food) and play. Her favorite past time is tag with other dogs or people. She is super loyal to her people; she greets us quickly with a wag and a head but in our legs. But if she has a litter of puppies, it's all about them. She is a steady and true friend and we are glad to have her. Registration is AKC.
Mac, dad
Poodle
About Mac
Majestic Mackinac is a beautiful brown phantom boy. He's a spunky character. Alert. Swims. The first time we thought he was big enough to go back by our pond he swam across it. It's not a small pond; I was astounded. He still goes to the pond every chance he gets for a swim. And oh, his nose! He sniffed out a bunny nest that was on the side of our big sled hill. I got there to intervene while he stood still with one squirming in his mouth--it wasn't injured. He was just holding it. Mama bunny moved her nest that night!
Sugar, mom
Poodle
About Sugar
Introducing our Sugar Loaf Mountain! She's a mountain of fluff; her coat is extra thick and wooly. Sugar learns fast and loves her people--often giving us kisses during nighttime snuggles. She only barks when she wants to go outside.
Deter, dad
Poodle
About Deter
Introducing Detroit Fire! We call him Deter for short. This miniature red male is amazing in structure and temperament. He has the long legs and beautiful almond-shaped eyes. His temperament is one where he LOVES to be by his people. He is ready for adventure whether it is a hike or simply watching what we are doing. He gets along with everyone--including our cat. We couldn't ask for a nicer poodle.
Benzie, mom
Poodle
About Benzie
Beloved Benzie is a beauty to behold. I really like tuxedo marked poodles. They are a parti poodle who got blessed with an extra big "spot" that covers their body and looks like they are wearing a jacket over a white shirt. Benzie is our girl from Solace and Petosky. She is inquisitive and a rule follower--she doesn't test boundaries with us.
Leland, dad
Poodle
About Leland
Introducing Leland who is famously named for the beautiful city Leland and the Leelanau County in Michigan. He has impeccable structure, clear genetics, and a winning personality. Leland is such a loyal poodle; he thrives best when he is with his humans. Poodles in general love to be by their people, so much so, that I tell people poodles aren't runners. They don't want to leave the yard because that also means leaving their person. That's unthinkable to a poodle.
Sam, dad
Poodle
About Sam
Sam is a male Poodle. Carefully selected as a great representative of his breed, Wynne decided to make him part of their program. Wynne has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

I got my Moyen Poodle Ember from Wynne at Great Lakes Poodles. The whole process was very easy and efficient. My puppy Ember had to be transported to Cleveland and was at a more than reasonable rate. I was a little nervous about getting a puppy I was not able to meet yet but Wynne’s knowledge and expertise about the breed and the puppy herself gave me great comfort in purchasing her. Ember was as beautiful as her photos and her behavior was exactly what I was told to expect. Ember is a very smart poodle it obvious Great Lakes Poodles maintains high standards for breeding their puppies. I couldn’t ask for a better puppy she has been an absolute joy and very easy to train. I highly recommend Wynne and Great Lakes Poodles.
