Meet the breeder

I'm Danelle K., the breeder behind Grove Haven Canines located in El Cajon, CA. Grove Haven Canines is an intentional, home-based breeding program raising health-tested dachshunds and retrievers with a focus on temperament and early development. Each puppy follows a structured socialization and training curriculum to build calm, confident companions ready for real family life.

Q. & A. with Danelle

  • Why did you start breeding?

Animals have always been part of my life. I began breeding and showing rabbits as a kid, learning the importance of health, structure, and temperament, then built a career as a professional dog trainer. Grove Haven grew from blending those experiences and raising puppies with intention, early education, thoughtful socialization, and a strong foundation for life in real families.
  • What makes your program special?

We raise puppies with intention, not chance. From health-tested parents and temperament-focused pairings to early training, enrichment, and daily socialization, every step builds confident, resilient family dogs. Puppies are thoughtfully matched to families based on temperament and lifestyle, not just looks, so each home gets the right lifelong companion.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include golden and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Danelle

Danelle has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Danelle partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“While families are always welcome to share preferences (such as gender, color, or general temperament), our primary focus is making the best long-term match for both the puppy and your home. Each puppy is carefully observed and evaluated throughout early development, allowing us to understand their individual temperament, energy level, and overall disposition. We take your lifestyle, household dynamic, and goals into account, and then guide placement based on which puppy is most likely to thrive in your environment. Puppies complete temperament testing from an experienced outside dog trainer or canine behavior expert at 7 weeks old, after which placements begin. Our goal is to not only place you with a puppy that you will love but, more importantly, to place a puppy that will naturally fit into your life, setting both of you up for long-term success.”
