I'm James S., the breeder behind Gulf Coast Puppies located in Atmore, AL. Our goal is to provide families with healthy, intelligent, and well mannered puppies. Healthy parents and raising our puppies in a loving environment is a priority. Exercise and mental stimulation begins at an early age. Both parents are a part of our family and have champion bloodlines.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Raised with pets all of my childhood. We were taught responsibility by giving proper care and attention to them. Now with a family of my own we added a Portuguese Water Dog to our family. This lead to a love for the breed and wanting to make them available to other families. This involves the entire family as we hold a high standard for both the parents and our puppies.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Portuguese Water Dog puppies include brown and white and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from James

James has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Price

Puppy prices include a $200 refundable deposit and between $1,600 - $31,800 final payment, before taxes & fees.

"Our puppies will be up to date with vaccinations, they will have a health check up by our veterinarian, and come with a one year health guarantee. AKC registration paperwork will be included. The deposit will reserve a puppy of your choice. If you decide not to adopt, deposit will be refunded when another home is found for the puppy."

James may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Early Onset Progressive Retinal Atrophy (EOPRA), DNA Disease Panel, GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
