Meet the breeder

I'm Courtney S., the breeder behind Hearth & Homestead located in Louisville, IL. We raise our pups inside our home & use the Misty Method to prepare the pups for potty training. We work hard to provide the best foundation we can-from removing their dew claws on time to socializing them with our other dogs, cats, and young child. We want to share the Golden Love!

Q. & A. with Courtney

  • Why did you start breeding?

My wife’s father started breeding Golden Retrievers in 1993. He had a wonderful boy named Jaybird that he never wanted to lose a piece of and I joined the legacy when I married her.
  • What makes your program special?

We raise our pups inside the house the entirety of the time they live with us, and implement the Misty Method. We raise them to be phenomenal family dogs and shower them in love as much as we can!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include dark golden and golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I could not have had a better experience working with Courtney from Hearth & Homestead! The process was extremely easy and smooth from start to finish—I loved the weekly update pictures I received once I settled on a pup and Courtney was super responsive to any questions I had along the way. The pickup process was super easy and Courtney had everything ready to go when we got there. I could tell the dogs are very well cared for there and raised to come home with the best possible preparation to do well. Most importantly, it was love at first sight with my Winnie who could not have been more perfect, sweet, and well behaved from the moment she got in my car. Thank you so much Courtney!!

We traveled halfway across the country to get our lil puppy girl from Hearth & Homestead and it was worth every moment! Courtney was absolutely amazing to work with and continues to keep in touch with us now--almost a year later. Kallie is such an amazing, cuddly, little love of a dog and she is such an important part of our family now! We want to get another dog in the future and we are 100% going back to Hearth & Homestead!!!
