Natasha L.

Breeder of Golden Retrievers and Havanese

Meet the breeder

I'm Natasha L., the breeder behind Hermosa Havanese and Golden Retrievers located in Carlisle, OH. We only breed occasionally, so that when we do, we can produce the healthiest, happiest, most well rounded puppies. All of our dogs are AKC champions and are fully health tested based on the recommendations of our national breed clubs. We raise our puppies using Puppy Culture.

Q. & A. with Natasha

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got my first show dog when I was 14 years old, and have been exhibiting and breeding in the 20 years since! I began with Havanese and spent years studying and becoming an expert in them, but had always wanted a Golden as well. I began showing Goldens in 2021 and I bred my first Golden litter this year.
  • What makes your program special?

My goal with every litter is to produce dogs that are quintessential of their breed. While we show our dogs, not every puppy in a litter is a show dog, so I believe it is of the utmost importance to produce dogs that are health - both mentally and physically- and are adequately equipped to co-exist in a human world. Health, Temperament, and Type are the three things we most value.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Golden Retriever puppies are golden. Havanese puppies include black and white, white, cream, black, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Golden Retriever 2, PRA, Golden Retriever 1

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
