Meet the breeder

I'm Debra and Michael R., the breeder behind Hickory Springs Corgis located in Lima, NY. We find so much joy in watching our puppies grow and develop their own unique personalities. Socializing our puppies for their future family is key to their development. They are introduced to our family, and pets in the house including cats. Our pups are well bred and well loved, it shows!

Q. & A. with Debra and Michael

  • Why did you start breeding?

We started with breeding German Shepard Dogs in the 1980s and switched over to Pembroke Welsh Corgis in the 90s after we met two very happy little Corgis on our street. We fell in love with Corgis and over the years switched over to Corgis. We now exclusively raise and breed Corgis. We started with the purchase of Hickory and Ginger who were our very first breeding pair, and the rest is history!
  • What makes your program special?

Love, commitment to excellence, raising them for families, not money. Our goal is to match a beautiful, happy puppy with the right family and their needs. We have been successful placing our puppies with the best loving families and environments. We have so many happy customers and returning families which speaks volumes. Check out our puppies and you will be happy you did! Contact us now!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include fawn, red, sable, white and red, white and black, blue, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Debbie and Mike made this such a great experience. As first time puppy owners, they were fantastic about giving tips and advice when bringing home our new pup. They thought of everything and made for a smooth transition to our home. They even have a fantastic driver who delivered our new baby from NY to DC at a very reasonable rate. Since drop off, they have checked in numerous times and are invested in the health and happiness of all the puppies they raise. I cannot recommend them enough!

Debra and Michael represent the sort of breeders that pet owners hope to find. Communications were timely , thorough, and most important, extremely helpful. The process was smooth and trouble-free the entire time, from initial contact through pickup day. We cannot stress enough how wonderful Debra, Michael, and Hickory Springs are. Their long experience in breeding (formerly German Shepherds, and for some years now Corgis) adds an extra dimension of care and detail for the pups and their new owners. We'd also like to mention how much we liked the 3rd party service provided by Good Dog. All communications through purchase up until pickup went through Good Dog, as did the down payment and final payment. Good dog provides buyers with peace of mind that one is not dealing with a scammer. Debra and Michael are the real deal, and their Hickory Springs being part of the Good Dog network is all the assurance that buyers could hope for. As for the most important part - Ember. She has been nothing short of phenomenal in her adaptation to our household and her rate of learning. She caught on to outdoor pottying within 48-72 hours, with few "accidents' that were entirely our fault for not watching the clock or reading the signs. During the first 48h f going outdoors she got accustomed to being on a leash attached to her harness, and also learned to handle a couple of 7" steps from the patio to the lawn. At the end of two weeks with us she was responding to her name virtually 100% of the time. Carol taught Ember to "come" in another two days, and Ember "comes" 99% of the time. A total surprise was when I tossed a small tennis ball and Ember took off, picked it up, and brought it back to my feet and dropped it - without ANY training! She repeated that about 15 times that evening until distracted, and we do it several times a day. On 7FEB25 (14 wks old) Ember was on the bottom 2nd step of the stairs to the 2nd floor, and I taught her to go up a few more, and come back down. She saw Carol at the top of the stairs, Carol called her, and Ember took off up the steps hopping them like a rabbit, right to the top. Carol started down the stairs and Ember came down beside her. Then Ember went up and down herself a good dozen times the same night, and slept like a rock, came down a final time, and did a couple minutes of zoomies as a finisher. She has NEVER met a stranger, human or canine in her brief time with us. She surprises, amazes and entertains us all time; what a truly exceptional dog!

Debra and Michael were easy to work with and so knowledgeable about our pup Cinder. Our family has previously had two corgis but this was by far the best experience with a breeder. We are so happy to have our little one in the family and cannot say how amazing the experience was with Hickory Springs Corgis!

Debbie and Michael were so easy to work with and so helpful! They answered all my questions prior to making any decisions and walked me through the process. When I came to pick up Kyrie (previously Sierra Nevada) they took the time to walk me through all of the paperwork and what my family and I needed to know to be successful with a new puppy. Kyrie is a joy to have in our house. She loves meeting new people, loves to explore, and has been learning her name, to come when called, and to use the bathroom outside. Thanks to Debbie and Michael for all of your help!

I recently brought my corgi puppy home from Debbie and Michael at Hickory Springs Corgis and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! From start to finish, they were incredibly helpful, professional, knowledgeable, and communicative. They took the time to answer all my questions and made sure I felt confident and prepared to welcome my new puppy into my home especially since I haven't had a dog in over 10years. It was clear that the puppies were raised with love and care. My corgi, Bentley (formerly Nyx) is not only healthy but has an amazing temperament. He is a good boy and I can tell they took really good care of him. They were even able to accommodate me needing extra time to pick him up due to work commitments. I also appreciated how they provided resources on training, care, and nutrition to help make things easier for me. It’s clear that they are passionate about the breed and prioritize the well-being of their dogs above all else. Good Dog made the process easy, from the initial connection to Debbie and Michael, arranging pickup, and secure payment. I highly recommend Good Dog and Hickory Springs to anyone looking for a happy, healthy, and well-socialized corgi!

What is there to say about Debra and Michael, except simply the best. We got Cabot(formerly Shadow) on New Years Day. This is our first puppy and/or dog together or individually (aside from family dogs growing up). Debra and Michael spent time educating us on techniques, gave advice, lets us meet some of their other dogs. They sat with us and went over our paperwork word by word so we had a strong understanding. We were both really nervous about what to expect and Deb and Mike beyond exceeded our hopes. I can’t imagine having a better experience for first time dog owners. They have continued to answer our questions (especially the first couple days when we were worried because our boy hadn’t pooped yet). We plan to bring Cabot back for a visit to play on their land at some point in the future. We couldn’t thank them enough!! Thank you so much!!!!!
