Meet the breeder

I'm Shelly G., the breeder behind Hidden Creek Catahoulas located in Palestine, TX. We are a small operation striving to produce conformationally correct, well-tempered dogs with excellent natural instincts.

Q. & A. with Shelly

  • Why did you start breeding?

I fell in love with the Catahoula breed with my first dog, Roxie. She is half Catahoula and half Border Collie and was a rescue. When adding a second dog to the ranch, I knew I wanted a purebred Catahoula. Soon I was hooked into the wonderful world of owning a Catahoula! Since then, we have had an amazing time meeting other people, showing at both NALC and UKC shows, and just enjoying owning this wonderful breed!
  • What makes your program special?

At Hidden Creek Catahoulas we produce only the finest quality dogs who not only have outstanding conformation but have matching personalities.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Hidden Creek Catahoulas reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Catahoula Leopard Dogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
