I'm Lori Y., the breeder behind Hillside Havanese located in Nyssa, OR. We have been raising and breeding only Havanese for about 15 years. We breed for health and temperament. In order to help predict health, we test for all of the tests the breed club recommends through the OFA, plus genetic testing through Embark. In order to help predict temperament, we use the puppy culture method to raise our pups. All of the puppies are AKC registered.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    When my children were young, we were searching for a family pet. We came across the Havanese and realized they were a perfect fit. In our search, we realized there were very few Havanese breeders in our area. Ultimately we ended up purchasing a puppy from out of town and quickly realized that she was from a puppy mill. My goal, after much research, was to provide healthy Havanese puppies locally and out of state through thorough health testing.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our dogs are part of our family, first and foremost. We are constantly learning and growing in order to provide happy, healthy puppies. This is why we health test through OFA and provide genetic testing. We also utilize puppy culture for all of the puppies in order to help ensure they are well adjusted and socialized. We pride ourselves in always being there for puppy families long after they go home.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include white, red, chocolate, silver, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Puppy prices include a $300 non-refundable deposit and $1,850 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“All our pups are $2150, regardless of sex, color or size. This includes a 3 year health guarantee, immunizations and deworming by vet, microchip and AKC registration. Deposit is included in the total price of pup. Required before retaining a puppy.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
