Holtz German Shepherds

Christina H.

Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Christina H., the breeder behind Holtz German Shepherds located in Ontario, WI. I breed west German Shepherds conforming to breed standard with show titles, performance titles, and health testing.

Q. & A. with Christina

  • Why did you start breeding?

I wanted to breed German Shepherds because I was introduced to poorly bred dogs and deceitful breeders. I would never regret owning a comprised dog, but it is heartbreaking and I do not want anyone else to go through that.
  • What makes your program special?

I am a small breeder and whose primary focus is the health of my dogs. They live in my home, are exposed to a variety of environmental stimulations, and are smothered with love. I bring my dogs to their potential and enjoy going to shows. I breed to conform to how the German Shepherd is meant to be.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have long coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Holtz German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
