Litter update on 04 May •
The puppies are now a week old, and their paw pads and noses have started turning black, which is a normal and healthy part of their development as pigmentation sets in. At this stage, Golden Retriever puppies are still mostly sleeping and nursing, their eyes and ears remain closed, and they rely entirely on their mother for warmth and care. Though still tiny and wobbly, they’re growing rapidly and beginning to develop stronger muscles and coordination.

About Ivy Blue
Meet Ivy Blue, a spirited Golden Retriever with a heart as big as her love for the water. Whether she's swimming in crystal-clear lakes or splashing through ocean waves, Ivy Blue thrives in the water and is always ready for an adventure. Her playful nature and boundless energy make her the perfect companion for any outdoor activity.
But Ivy Blue’s love for life extends far beyond just the water. She's an all-around family dog who loves to go wherever her humans go—whether it’s a hike through the mountains, a trip to the lake, or simply curling up on the couch next to her family at the end of the day. She’s always by their side, ready to share in whatever moments come her way. With a heart full of affection, Ivy Blue has never met a stranger. She greets everyone with a wagging tail and her friendly, loving nature. There’s no doubt about it—she’s a people dog through and through. Whether out on an adventure or lounging at home, Ivy Blue’s loyalty and companionship make her the ultimate family dog. Her presence brings joy, comfort, and unconditional love wherever she goes. Ivy Blue has passed all her OFA health clearances; hips, eyes, heart elbows, and genetics.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Houston’s Golden Haven reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), PRA, Golden Retriever 2, PRA, Golden Retriever 1
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
